Anyone had a new replacement on an S1

I’ve been told it’s a Ritter of a job.

Speaking to BHM today they tell me the old screen basically has to be smashed out.

Main concern is not wrecking the paint around the screen

I had the S2 done some years ago.

They did end up cracking it and then removing it.

Interestingly it had gasket to top and bottom edges and black sealant only down the two sides.

Insurance paid, autoglass did it with me looking on like a panic monkey and they were great. Did ask me to go to the depot and apparently a "senior installer" was assigned.

It did take them a week or so to find the windscreen.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Interesting re the gaskets.

I couldn’t even get autoglass to do my wife’s side glass on the Defender so you did well.

Insurance have said I can get the screen, pay for my own guy to fit it and they’ll reimburse me so I just wanted to get the heads up.

The old screen can be removed whole, mine was - albeit it will crack etc. Just needs careful cutting, a windscreen fitter will want the screen out in minutes, on these might take an hour of careful cutting.

It will need the dash top wood out to give access and to stop the wood getting damaged, there are no seals on the Aero S1 (certainly not on mine or on any parts diagrams when I spoke to Morgan), the glue is basically the seal so it is a right pita to put in place and then form a seal with tape and tools/fingers while it is still malleable. They used Tiger seal on mine but I believe Wurth Bond & Seal that you suggested before may do a neater and better job as it dries smoother and in a matt black, the working time is the problem though, as soon as it starts going off you can't smooth these glue's out and you get a rough finish.

That or maybe see if the factory can do - I would imagine they are used to installing all the weird and wonderful glass for Morgan's laugh2

Nick I spoke to BHM and asked specifically if the dash top needs to come out and they said no.

Both by nippers no longer work for Morgan or the factory option would’ve been an easy one I missed a trick there as I’m not about to drive that far

Interesting, was told mine had to come out as they were pretty sure it would be damaged by the tools removing the screen - and the new screen would squeeze glue out of the very small space it has to bond onto (its basically touching the dash top) and stick or ooze onto the wood - which could cause issues if it needs to come out in the future.

Of course if someone at BHM has done loads of S1 screens they may have a method to do it without removal or special tools, I can only comment on my experience of Allon White doing it.. certainly a lot less faff to keep it in!

Didn't realise they had all left, would be a fun weekend trip though.. wink
