I'll keep that in mind for next time. How tight should that nut be? With the amount of force needed on the 3-arm puller the nut isn't doing too much anyway.

You don't need to take that much off it, just a few rubs with a file should to the trick.

Never seen a published torque figure but worked it out from an axle at 146 ft lb.

Make sure the hub key is corrected fitted to the halfshaft or you will split the hub

Guess I was incorrect then; just as well I haven’t had to do it.

Thanks, Arwyn. Hopefully I'll never have to remove the hub again, but I have the 3-arm puller just in case.

Whilst fitting Hawki’s super silencer today I also replace the perished elastic band at the rear of the exhaust. I had a devil of a job finding the right one so thought it worth posting the part number.

Mot passed, no issues. Don’t know why but it’s always seems an achievement when it’s shouldn’t be!

Is it do with finding an MoT'er that knows Morgans ? Can release the handbrake, can open the bonnet, knows Morgan suspension, and (as appropriate) understands LSD's ?

Ah, good old MoT tester bashing.......never had any of those issues with the testers who have MoT'd my Morgans.

Well informed and on the ball.

Have you any idea of of the refresher training which they have to do to keep their authorisation from the DVSA. How they have spot checks and the mystery shopper car sent round to check they are on the ball? DVSA sent one to the garage which I use with 8 dangerous faults and my tester found a 9th!

How they can be investigated for too many passes and not enough fails by DVSA?

There are some very good MOT testers out there - if you find one then keep hold of them.

Bloke on the MG forum is one of those from the DVSA who checks up on MOT stations - some right horror stories! Unfortunately the dodgy ones tarnish the reputation of the good ones.

They're also stuck between a rock and a hardplace - I've been lucky where I've built a relationship with testers over the years, they trust me and my work, and they've been happy to issue a pass with the 'get that sorted when you get home'. Perfect for me, but technically they've 'broken the rules' and not recorded a fault.
