Aha, now I see and understand the connection with your comment. Thanks for the reply. Maybe something to check the patients...! My PlusFour knob is also polished steel (maunual!) as the 4/4 has a wooden knob. After 2 days of rain here in the south of the Netherlands I do hope the knob will be hot instead of cold when we go off for a 4 days vacation in Zeeland tomorrow!

After only five years the battery died. Let me share here (for my memory) the specs of the new one:
Varta D15 Silver Dynamic 563 400 061, 12V, 63Ah, 610A (‎5634000613162) . Bought ans shipped from amazon but the "real" seller was this one (from the packaging) https://www.ricambi-smc.it/ (they have a warehouse in Italy and another one in Germany)

Given that there are no starting handles or that a push might just get a vehicle fired up these days, it seems best to pay attention to the likely life expectancy of a battery... It seems a good quality Advanced Glass Matt (AGM) battery might be expected to last for 10 years if it lives a life where it is either kept on a float charger/conditioner suitable for AGM if/when the vehicle may be laid up or irregularly used..

I suspect few vehicle electrical systems are designed for lengthy periods of lay-up, though some perhaps more able to do so than others..? It seems AGM batteries may be able to put up with longer periods of inactivity than old style wet led acid batteys...

Whether your new battery is AGM or not, and how considered it`s maintenance might be may well affect it`s longevity.

I think AGM batterys may be found to be fitted to a necessary fitment to vehicles with stop start programming..?

Our engine it's a 2004 engine. This year is celebrating 20 years of life (X5 4.8iS from 2004) and the electric system is made in Malvern. If this combo requires 100 chf battery every 5 years, it's not a big hassle, for me. Even with the support of the old good ctek 5.0.
