My ignition lock is broken. The key goes in but it wont turn.
Does anyone know the part number & make / supplier please?
Do I need to do something clever to tune the key to the ECU?

John

There will be others along who have more knowledge than I , but I have been experiencing this problem intermittently for a year or so.

Each time I am just about able to get the key to turn by "waggling" the steering wheel from one side to other at the very limited amount of travel permitted.

I reported this to a dealer and they said that it was a fairly easy job to replace the barrel. There is no interlock with the ecu on my +8 , I suspect this would be similar on your Roadster.

Sorry , no help on part numbers.

It appears to be the same as a 1997 on LR Discovery 1 John. A Valeo item with same identity numbers C50096 and C50097. A few available used with key. I believe this has a removable chip within. One on link below from your favourite salvage company.

Just looked on ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125958728276
The part numbers on search shows it as a Land rover part .

You may have tried already John but squirt in plenty of penetrating oil and wriggle the key again.

As Rog has said + maybe a light tap with a hammer.
I notice it is made by “Valeo” who have a website but searching with that item number does not throw up an answer. Could be worth making durect contact with them, as that ebay item looks a bit pricey for a used item!

Have bought a new unit as nothing is shifting the old lock. The breakers unit is crazily priced a new one is £50
Videos on the internet indicate that there is no need to reprogram the key to the immobiliser.
Thanks all for the help.
I did find a US video that says they fail & they have a local part that is turn for on & avoids the push in bit which apparently what causes failure.

Will post photos as I do it.

Phase 1 complete the old lock is out . It took I guess c 45 mins.
First you need to remove the cowl . There are 6 screws along the side plus 2 underneath.

With the cowl off you need to remove the electrical connectors to the stalks so you can attack the two heads of the bolts. These bolts have heads that shear off when tighten them up as a security feature. I used an old screw driver & hammer to tap the RHS of the bolt heads, note the witness marks. Once them come loose they come off very easily. I also removed the immobilier ring by pulling it off. It is held on by a tie wrap.

I unscrewed the connector switch for the loom by undoing the two small screws & the lock was off. You can also see the immobiliser ring & hole for the steering lock in the column.

The part number is clear here.

You can see here a tang that should engage the switch for the loom when the key moves forward . This mechanism is apparently what fails.

The new lock is on order but I wont probably get it before Easter.

Good result so far John thumbs. Only had a quick look and found only used ones. To echo Doug could you supply source and number you ordered under so I can bookmark.

You just need to turn your baseball cap through 180 and your all set for grand theft auto innocent
