I have also now found a local locksmith who thinks he can fix the barrel, I await the quote.
With my baseball cap reversed & in grand theft auto mode I turned the car on with a screwdriver. It starts & it all works but the little red padlock keeps flashing. So I don't know what that does apart from a warm feeling.
With the key balanced on the immobiliser sensor & my trusty screwdriver the car starts & the pad lock goes away.

The locksmith came today & quoted £150 to repair it. I declined but he did tell me how he would do it starting with pliers on a blank key to turn the tumbler. I thought nothing ventured etc on the old lock so applied force to the key and hey ho it is free. I doused it in bike chain lube and stood it upright to allow drainage. A shed load of gunk came out. Hard to imagine so much crud coming out of an ignition lock!! 😯 ..... you need to stop carrying boiled-sweets and coal in your pockets! 🙂
