Morgan went with the S&S engine because they could get it cheaper. S&S used really old technology for bikes from people like Orange County choppers.... show bikes that would not have many miles. While Harley engines are not as good as water cooled engines, they are FAR SUPERIOR to anything S&S ever produced.... well unless you compare S&S to 1940's technology

Stuff a Harley engine in the M3W and figure out the electronics, like bypassing the almost everything MMC.

Not so, they approached Harley who wanted a minimum order of around 5,000 units. As Morgan couldn't do this it was HD who suggested they go to S&S.

Moto Guzzi were also approached I understand but with minimal introduction such that they were not interested.

okay, I admit, I was in a cranky mood... but we all agree Morgan is not known for quality and support. I love the attention my M3W gets. It is fun to drive. I have nearly 18,000 miles on it, but I worry what thing I have to fix next. Don't get me wrong. I have rebuilt several Honda GL1000's from the 70's. But I did not buy the M3W to be a "mantle piece" only to be taken out for "show". What was I thinking?

Like most of us, you weren't thinking when you bought this thing. I know I wasn't. The S&S and the Mazda tranny are two of the most reliable things on the car. Everything else that's bolted to them is seriously questionable.

I bought a 'driver' not a 'collector'. It shows. Over 55,000 miles, one chassis rebuild on their dime, multiple tire sets and a lot of fun. The dirt and wear are badges of honor. I don't have time nor any inclination to sit on the floor with a toothbrush to clean the wheels...

You are ahead of me on the miles front, although I am getting close to 20,000 miles. Now that I have gone back to work and living in two places I am sure the annual miles will go down. I do not know if you are on the facebook "usa low flyers" group, but it looks like we may have a meet up to do the tail of the dragon in Septmber 2024

Lance, I have had to replace oh so much... entire chassis, cam belt, drive belt, battery, fuel pump, turn signal arm, windshield, one of the rear brake lights, both headlights and one bucket, exhaust headers and mufflers, compensator (from H-D style to rubber) main crank, pistons and drive spline, add in exhaust manifold spline, nuts etc. Three rear tires and seven pair of fronts.
