I bought a 2011 Plus 4 in 2018 which had just over 7,000 miles on it, most of which had been done in the first 3 years I think. Serviced by the dealer each year though, and I did 10,000 miles with it in 18 months with no major problems.

Sounds like yours had all the annual services though Jon. At a main dealer too. so that might well be the thing to check more than perhaps the milage! So many cars have gaps in their service history as owners think that they haven't used it so it doesn't need servicing! Mot history similar too, gaps to be seen as suspicious! My car in its first 6 years had done less than 1000 miles!.

Well Gizmo, look at Beaulieu motor museum, they have a service dept working all year and the cars they use intermittently are serviced annually. Some really old cars that rarely come off display but work get repaired if needed as spares are unavailable.

Absolutely spot on, my Roadster had its first service at just over 800 miles when just over 4 years old, and the rest of the miles was in the main done on a continental tour, then stored again for about 6 years.

If secondhands , I buy ONLY low mileage cars. Never had big problems . And I had a lot of cars.

As all the comments above point at it is not about the mileage but the service history plus the care and attention given to the vehicle. In my opinion the low mileage malarkey is just a sales pitch to get more money, we all know if you look after your vehicle daily driver or otherwise it will by and large look after you.
Thought I would add this little story: 14 years ago I was looking for a secondhand robust "mountain vehicle". We like Toyota so went to the local dealer down the hill who had two 2007 4 Runners for sale, one had 28,000 miles and the other 70,000 miles with just over $10,000 price difference between them, the 70k vehicle had an excellent service history. I bought the 70k one and we are now approaching 300,000 miles, the car is getting tatty in looks with hail damage, scuffs, etc. but it is going strong on these mountain tracks. I service the car at 3000 miles and have replaced shock absorbers, etc (nothing major). Interestingly I still have the VIN of the other 4 Runner and I just ran the report, it had quite a few mechanical issues after 120,000 miles and was eventually scrapped at 195,000 miles, it's service history was spotty.
