As there are a few stains from humidity over time, I was considering to dye the (light grey) inside of my everflex hood, preferably with black "paint".
Does anyone know a good solution to change the inside color? I am a bit hesitant because of water getting through the hood and ending up as black stains on my clothes...

Paint & dye are different things.
Paint is very small micron sized particles of coloured pigment with a binder material & a solvent. The solvent evaporates & the binder sticks the pigment to the surface. So paint will crack on a flexible surface.

Dyes dissolve in a solvent say water and are absorbed by the substraight. But as you point out and as we know from clothing like denim dyes if not fixed will washout to some degree.

Renovo make hood treatments but I never heard of one for the inside. But on reading the instructions for their canvas Hood Reviver on ebay it seems it might work (probably worth an email or call). The ebay item I loked at was eBay item number:155621590510

PS I then reread your post & you talk of everflex . The Renovo product is not for vinyl roofs & I can't imagine dyes fixing to vinyl.Sorry but I think all you can do is to clean & reproof it

Dave W has done it with Renovo. There's a thread on here somewhere if you search for it.

Robert, I would give the inside a good scrub with non bio washing powder in hot water to clean then reproof with stuff generally available for tents.

Don’t know how to post a link to an old thread but Dave’s treatment of his inner hood with Renovo is #779058 posted on 10/6/2023.

I think Dave's hood is a mohair, not an everflex.

I have a similar issue - my inside has stains and marks on it, so would be interested in a fix.

Exactly the original question is for everflex so this doesnt work.

Has anyone tried one of the numerous shoe dyes on the market? ... by their nature they will be durable, not rub off and be resistant to bending ... a quick google brings up loads of options.

I was thinking the same as Image, the sort of dye thats used on Vinyl car seats to spruce them up. A search with google came up with a company at vinyldye.co.uk I dont know anything about this company or its product, but I have seen these type of products bring very tired seats back to near new looks.
