We do have some really nice places on our doorstep Jon however your always driving up the same roads if you use your car regularly. They were sweeping the balcony when we were there the other day funnily enough. No blue plack to say you stayed there though.....Em

No stress. Delays worked round. Just a bit of bad luck. The Pensarn roundabout is a known chokepoint but there are alternatives to avoid it. Just bad luck this time for those delayed and missing turn offs to leave the A48. There was only one roadworks with a delay, the others no big deal. We all had a laugh anyway. Don’t overthink the 20mph issue as there are still many roads ok. Local knowledge is a big help. Cross the border? Feel free but more room for us here if you don’t  Hi Sospan, we're heading down to Newport Pem in mid June - please could you share the work around/drive around for the Pensarn roundabout? Thanks in advance Neil

OK. Will do.
Basically you leave the A48 dual carriageway about a mile (approx) before Pensarn r/a. Sign for Police HQ is the turn off, crossing the carriagway .
What route are you taking from Carmarthen?
Using the Police HQ road you come down towards Carmarthen just East of the Pensarn r/a. From there you have two routes, either through the town and onto the A40 west to St Clears or bear right onto the bypass then onto the Cardigan road.
What day are you travelling? Traffic can be heavy on holiday routes.

Great thanks - very end of June so hopefully prior to holiday traffic. After Carmarthen I was just following google maps so it seems the "direct" route is via Blaenwaun and Crymych otherwise via Trelech and Boncath. Any recommendations there for a good route (good being enjoyable as opposed to direct)

We organised a drive from Bala in North Wales to Llanidloes in Mid Wales with our local group, pleased to report only 2O mph zones were through villages so no issues. The roads were mostly in good condition on the entire run so very enjoyable 😄.
