Put my +8 on the road after winter layup checked everything first and the clutch plate was stuck did all the normal things to free it ended up jacking up and running it and applying clutch and brakes at same time eventually it released, when I took it on the road and made a right hand turn I got a load bang from the rear my wife thought it came from her side I was of the impression it came from my side took her home (that’s the car). Spoke to a few people who say it happens a lot with older +8’s mines a 1974 sticking clutch I was told changed the oil and put a additive in took her out again she was still knocking during right hand turns mainly but getting less as I went and sometimes seemed to bind. Spoke to a classic car mechanic local he thought it may be a twisted or broken half shaft so I checked that out both ok they are still out, I’ve never had anything to do with limited slip diffs ? So don’t know weather to remove the cover and inspect won’t know what I’m looking for other than something broken, or put back together and run to see if the sticking clutch releases over time. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Daniel
I'm sure you'll get some good advice on here but if you're still struggling, Staffordshire MSCC has some experienced Plus 8 owners so that might be an alternative path for you. PM me if you want some intros.

If you were driving it from a long lay up it could be something like a sticking rear brake shoe/disc pad, some times after driving in heavy rain if you put your car away and don't use it for a while, the first time you use it the pads/brake shoes could be stuck to the drums/discs. I would check this before stripping the diff.

Check the rear damper hanger. They can break and then the propshaft hits the tunnel

Thanks Richard for the thread I have tried ringing J B Sports Engineering it appears they no longer exist, what I’m really after is someone who understands that type of limited slip diff.

Sorry phone and email no answer, have spoken to gearbox and axle specialist and we agree to put back together and run it for a while to see if it releases itself.
