Re the MOT.....
When mine is due in a couple of years I won’t have a suitcase on the back so the original light will be connected.

That's what I use when we travel.

I like the "Cobra" 3rd brake light
Much better than the horrible LED strips they had on the new CX's



They look to be built into the hood

I agree on both counts . The Cobra whilst unusual has style and height and I was pleased to see reintroduced on latest CX Plus Fours with spare option. The CX ones built into base of hood whether single or double look to be tacky trailer items.

Both need an alternate when carrying a suitcase though. Mine is held by case straps and plugs directly into OE Econoseal connector keeping things simple.

I quite like the Cobra light, I think the location, hidden wiring and the way it wraps over the spare wheel are an elegant solution, I've even added a chrome trim to match the other rear lights to give it some bling

Richard it is also an led bulb. But Gary's car has an LED cluster lamp.

Gary I have a y connector and with a suitcase remove the whole unit and have a repeater lamp that fits onto the straps holding the suitcase.

If you do take it off - def worth telling the insurance. In the very unlikely event you get rear ended and you've removed it without telling them you can bet they will use it as an excuse not to pay!

I assume I'm the exception, but I just like the solution ofnmy late 2022, 2023 delivered PlusFour with 2 brake lights in LED strips. As we don't have such a big suitcase on the rack, the brake lights remain good visible at both sides.

I wish they still did that option with a spare. So much neater
