Nice work with your upgrades too Dave. Monty is quite a unique motor and one of the last Duratecs, definitely a keeper. It’s really satisfying when it all comes together but those new springs might take a while to settle yet, gravity is relentless….. And keep a close eye on that front end too, I could be really tempted with a wishbone setup Here it is Rog to drool over. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/QjllNO2.jpg)

An interesting thread indeed. modifying and modernising Morgans has been quite the norm for many generations of Morganeers, I have been fortunate to experience it via the www for quite some time since I joined the then MSCC Discussion Group when it first appeared in the 90`s then on eMog and others since. I was ever the one who preferred originality as a datum for my evaluation of old cars, and still do to some extent today, though perhaps less so after so many yers of Morgan monitoring and the admiration of ingenuity and engineering of some owners who seek to drag their old Mog kicking and screaming into the modern world to more match modernday expectations, or to reduce the effects of ageing, not so much of the car but perhaps more that of it`s occupants... Great to see that Morgan`s still attract those of a particular mindset who can enjoy their cars to the full, long may that continue...

The thing is, originality in the world of Morgan doesn't equate to longevity without interventions. Especially in the days before wood protection and steel wings being painted when attached to the body. Sadly, our generation seems to be the last of the hands-on owners because everything changes, and deriving pleasure from spanners is becoming a lost art. Morgans still manage to provide pleasure, with a degree of pain to those who understand.

A quick bit of bodging this afternoon that I’ve been meaning to do for a while that maybe worth a post. I’m sure anybody with this model is familiar with that shocking scraping sound a few inches from your bottom whilst negotiating some speed bumps (not to mention the embarrassment from any wincing bystander observing). The culprit will most probably be the low slung factory fabricated rear Mazda gearbox mounting arrangement extending from beneath the car. Its centrally located between front and back wheels incorporating two downward protruding bolts for maximum effect. A feature I don’t recollect on my previous Duratec with a MT75 box. Here’s the culprit and this measurement is with an empty car, a good pair of springs and taller profile tyres than the standard fit giving about an extra centimetre of lift. Speed bumps can be up to 100mm high. ![[Linked Image]](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/x05oyl7kw6e1slu/clearance1.jpg) And shown here with the bolts trimmed back if you look closely. It was my initial attempt at a fix. A little reconfiguration seemed appropriate so a couple of countersunk screws now fitted. ![[Linked Image]](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/5lrj22qq73m097c/csks1.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/2p0r1l9invr12tw/screws34.jpg) I should also be able to get over the pavement and drive into my garage with a greater payload too. Every little helps…… Hi Rog, I'm going to be copying this Maxda gearbox mount fixing change, please can you confirm what countersunk screws and nuts you used? Also, any fitting tips would be welcomed as access looks like it might be tricky? Thanks, Dave.

Thanks, Dave. Hello Dave, They were M8 x 25 long screws and as spotted by Waikiore they were stainless. Its not dificult. Access to the nuts looks tricky but was ok with a regular cranked ring spanner. “Any fitting tips” - Don’t forget some decent eye protection when countersinking those holes when laying on your back

Thought I’d posted this some time ago. Inspired by this thread and having experience a local speed bump I decided to buy the Williams kit and make my own bell housing protector. Both seen action and worked fine for last 4-5 months. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2024/03/16/IMG_9117.md.jpeg)
