James. Have you polished your centre console strip?

I was wondering what to do with mine as they always seem to be scratched

Also how do I get the rascal off. I have a diagram that shows there are two screws under the pad.

I can see a recess at the rear end where I’m assuming the pad can be prised out??? But it will not budge

I tried to 'improve' the scratches on the armrest (I think the original owner must have worn a giant Rolex!) and succeeded - in making it worse

I tried to get it re-engine turned but to no avail.It would appear Morgan had them turned as a flat piece and then shaped.

They also p*ss*d off the Company that made them such that they want nothing more to do with them (Morgan or, apparently , owners that is).

I also investigated getting it hydrodipped but couldn't find the correct engine turned pattern....

I sent it off to a retired engineer who was a bit of a whiz at engine turning but even he was defeated.In the end I just polished it as per photo's.

To answer your second question, to get it off the car you need to lever up the leather armrest pad (with an e.g. plastic pry bar so it doesn't scratch) at the indent you mention and you then reveal 1 (or perhaps 2 ?) wood screws.

If yours is stuck someone may have used some glue/Tigerseal at some point?

Remove this (these) and Bobs your Uncle.

Obviously,If you are going to properly polish using a buffing wheel, etc. you will also need to remove the window switches and the tyre pressure display - but this is pretty straightforward.

Overall,I am pleased with the end result (I also added a Morgan wings but you would need to bend that to the correct contour)

Yes I’ve already snapped one plastic trim remover. Must be stuck….which is a pain in the bum

Mine was glued down as well and having broken pry tools I resorted to using a very thin electrical screwdriver to feel along until I found the tree clip and then used the broken plastic pry tool as a guard on the aluminium to pry both sides of the tree until it popped! Nervouse procedure to say the least! I then did the same as James to try and “improve” the scratches with similar results as apparently the billeting has no protection.

I then sent mine to Simon at Sifab just before he went under as he said he could replicate it but after a year of trying he still hadn’t managed to produce one. Thankfully he sent the old one back to me before Sifab folded but the little resin block that sits underneath the tpms was never sent back to me so that was a bust!

Once it’s off it’s a good time to replace the window switches if they are cracked and discoloured as mine were. I bought the switches but was waiting on the new console to replace them but that never happened and I sold the S1 in April but I do miss the constant tinkering with stuff like this!😁

So there are two tree clips?

Did u get new switches from MMC? Expensive??

From memory yes 2 tree clips and think they are only an inch or so from back and front but were easy to find with the thin electrical screwdriver just take care not to put too much pressure on the alloy. One of mine was glued in as the wood had been destroyed at some point in the past and when I went to put it back on it was never as battened down as it had been. As James said then it was just a couple of wood screws.

The switches didn’t come from Morgan themselves But from Melvyn Rutter and they were only around 60 quid for both so a small bill for once. The left and right switches are slightly different apparently. Should be in their S1 parts catalogue.

Sounds like a trip to a trim shop or the dealer to be on the safe side. Can’t imagine they’d take much just to lift the pad?🤞Mine was a pig as well from memory so sounds like yours may be glued down as well.

Can you get the screwdriver or trim tool under and moving front to back?

Might also be worth trying to thread some fine fishing line under the front/back and pulling it until you hit each clip to get a precise location to pry on. I do wonder if any Morgan has screws and clips in the same place!😁
