Hadleigh Farm sits on the Thames Estuary half way between the resort of Southend-on-Sea and the container port at Tilbury Docks in Essex. Its commanding views across the river to the coastline of Kent aren’t what makes this site unique - it’s the fact that Hadleigh Farm is run by the Salvation Army. It was opened as a ‘farm colony’ in 1891 by the founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth, who had ambitions to transform the lives of London’s poor and needy by offering work, skills and housing.

More than 130 years later much has changed but, as Vernon Harwood discovers, the land is still owned and farmed by the Salvation Army. The estate now includes a rare breeds attraction, an arable operation, Hadleigh Country Park and a training centre for adults with additional needs who run the public tearoom. The location was thrown into the global spotlight in 2012 when part of the estate became the Mountain Bike course for the London Olympics and the legacy of the Games continues with hundreds of thousands of visitors to the parkland every year.

In this edition of On Your Farm, we ask how commercial agriculture and farm tourism fit into the aims of the modern Salvation Army and find out why poor harvests with low arable yields have led to a major re-think on the use of the wheat fields closest to the banks of the Thames.

You get what you put in from MSCC. We have friends across the country & have enjoyed tours & events over the last 25 years we would have missed out on.

Moving to Suffolk 6 years ago it helped us build a new network of friends.

I also I suppose am lucky so I ask my kids to donate any money they would spend on me at Xmas or bdays to local food banks.
I also give a donation at Xmas equivalent to the 8 folk who site down for Xmas lunch to a homeless charity.

Yes we are a very fortunate group on here with enough surplus to run cars just for fun which makes it far more appropriate to give away a lot of that to others in real need. Not being competitive by nature this is in no way a competition but 200 a month is our mandate as we don’t feel a thing, nevertheless it still contrives to make me feel a bit guilty at times but an extra bung to our local food bank fixes it.

I was saying today I would glad give another 2% tax to ensure child dentistry on the NHS etc. None of the parties had the balls to face the facts.

Back on thread...? (-: Twas my dear lady wife who was the sociable one and enjoyed meeting the really friendly members in JockMog, whereas I tend to ever be a bit of a solo performer, however through membership of the club, should I ever feel like company, I have the opportunity available to meet up with fellow car enthusiasts for a chat or attend an club event that others have put the effort into organising.

Also for some years I used to occasionally attend the other MSCC, Monklands Sporting Car Club`s production car trials to grab a few pics, some which I suspect I may have posted on here over the years. I think Monklands has links to JockMog that allow JockMog members to attend their club track events without the need to join the Monklands club.

As for contributing to debt payback and some sort of levelling up in society.... I expect to pay quite a bit more tax, and to get used to accepting a higher price for everything, combined with further reduction of living standards and expectations the general populace have adopted, which seem to have been built of debt built up over decades...?

Not wishing to be political but as long as there are people willing to pay for private dentistry there will be dentists who are happy to work part time for as much or more than they can earn on the nhs. As is the case, but to a lesser extent, with medics.

Looking now at 2 implants - the private dentists wants £6k! Can you see the NHS paying that out?

I've just been looking back at some recent emails and was reminded I received one about the MSCC Insurance Policy and that I should add my wife to my membership.
I haven't yet done so as I cannot fathom what is insured.

MSCC Insurance Policy Requirements 4.7.24
A single MSCC membership gives access to the named person to all aspects of
Club/Centre activities including All Member insurance cover. A joint MSCC
membership gives access to all named people- these can be family members living
at the same address or a driver/carer in certain circumstances- whose name only
needs to be registered with the MSCC membership secretary.
If they are not named they only have guest status and are able to attend one or two
Club/Centre events before they are encouraged to join. Adding joint members costs
no more for the primary member; the named person is then eligible for Club benefits
(however only one issue of Miscellany is sent, and only one e mail address can be
used to access the members’ area of the website).
All Member insurance cover does not apply to cars or people in cars; personal
insurance and public liability cover these aspects, but All Member insurance is a
requirement for anyone attending MSCC and Centre activities.[/quote]

Dare I say,… a load of cobblers, that is as clear as mud to most people!
Sadly, although individual centres are doing a great job in promoting Morgan camaraderie, I think the MSCC itself has lost its way and have forgotten that it should be representing members’ interests, without whom it would not exist anyway. However, a strong commercial drive seems to have taken over.
My reason for this stems from the new “unique” Peter James car insurance which the MSCC has signed up to for 3 years on the promise of a handsome return by promoting it as THE approved insurance and preventing the competition from advertising in Miscellany. All very well, but EVERYONE in my locality who have asked for a quote have had offers of 50% to 100% greater than their usual insurer. So it looks pretty obvious how the MSCC will collect its bounty.
My concern is that all the other Morgan specialist insurers may well see this as an opportunity to raise their rates towards that of the morgan “ approved” insurer.
So, if that happens, everyone suffers and MSCC would have done a serious dis-service to its members.
For that reason, regretfully, I am not renewing membership this year.
