Sorry it's another FB thing ... this popped up and, considering the prices of Morgans itseemed a cheap pre-war sports car .... supposedly quick and £38,000 .... out of my price range for a toy but seems reasonable for a pretty Pre-war motor. No connection to seller or anyone else associated with it.

Oh, I almost wish you hadn't shown me that! I've always had a soft spot for Rileys and this one is lovely, if I had the money and somewhere to put it I'd be tempted.

However, putting my practical head on. The DVLA has it as first registered in 2001, which ties in with the description. The MOT shows expired in 2014, suggesting that it's not registered as "historic" and hasn't been on the road for ten years. I'm guessing it's also not eligible for the much coveted VSCC "buff form". In short, it is a beautiful "special", but a 25-year-old special, not a 90-year-old one.

Even so, a nice thing to have. They state the "exciting price point" is to entice a younger (presumably quite minted) enthusiast. I hope it does.

The DVLA shows it as manufactured in 1934 so it will be MOT exempt and qualify for historic taxation class.

Only if there have been no substantial changes in the last 30 years. I imagine if it qualified for the historic class the owner would have done so before selling.

It would seem that there may have been some form of evolution in regs as well as vintage car club "acceptance" of a slightly more relaxed view on originality, perhaps to the extent that finding an identity by way of a log book, and assembling a high degree of vintage parts to create a "special," just might allow entry to some events listed as a ...whatever...?

I was ever one who considered originality as the datum for judgement of the value of a machine.... though have to admit that over the years my attitude has become a tad more relaxed....(-:

I found a degree of interest in the setting of datums/value of originality in the high court case of the famous vintage Bentley racer Old Number One, which I have raised over the years on eMog and other forums of the time and more recently on TM....

BTW my Mog is NOT original... (-: Kevin used stainless fixings wherever possible, even painted it a different colour, and used two pack lacquer on the bulkhead, rad, chassis and even the petrol tank, also swapped out the lever arms for Koni adjustables with the necessary hoop for their upper mounting..... Fortunately it seems Morganeers tend to care none to much about originality.... I wonder why...? (-:

I was under the impression that historic tax classification was related to the year of manufacture and only the MOT was subject to the "substantial changes" criteria.

I stand corrected. smile

It does have a good recent racing history, so would guess it's accepted ... saw this posted on the VSCC FB page and the vendor is a long-standing member and competitor. Apoears to have been built up from a period chassis by a well known racer.

Pretty thing and comments on the VSCC page indicate it's quick too.

In that case I'd say it was a real bargain! Too late now. frown
