All I would add is this. If the Quaife branded rack really did start in 2007, (so Series 2 Roadster territory), my 2004 build Roadster has a rack which looks identical to my 2016. Maybe Quaife took over the tooling.

My Roadster is basically a run-out Plus 8 with a replacement engine and gearbox. That's how it was in late 2004. So the rack issue may well go back towards the 97 change to long doors. The 4/4 at that time didn't have a rack.

I would need to dig around to try to get dates and so on but as you know, Morgan build specs are always a bit hazy on dates.

Quaife themselves only admit to building steering racks for Morgan Classics from 2006 Dave.

Hi all. Following this thread with interest, but exactly where is this nylon follower? I might be looking in the wrong place, but can’t see it in the parts manual. Doesn’t mean it’s not there I just can’t see it as not sure what I am looking for.

Hi, the nylon “follower” is also known as a “yoke”. It’s not shown in my parts book either. The rack adjustment in order of fitting comprises…..

Locking nut
Locking washer
Bung, which is a metal screw in adjuster
Spring
Follower or Yoke

Get down on your knees and look at the steering rack under the car. The follower is inside the rack casing at the point where the steering column meets the rack. The big nut points upwards at a bit of an angle and you should easily be able to see the starred washer at its base.

The plastic follower sits below level of the rack casing threaded hole, so can't be seen when in-situ even if using a ramp. If you stick your finger in the hole after removing adjuster you can feel it though

With a pair of small curved blunt nose pliers I found it can be lightly gripped and lifted out easily. When re-inserting ensure it's slot is engaged with rack. If it's just slightly proud of casing it's not.

My "Yoke" came out easily because it was seized into the "bung". After 175 miles today, I can confirm that the steering is noticeably better. Firmer straight ahead and good feel.

Finally got around to doing this.
Couple of points just for info.
Had to release overrider to get the spanners on.
The yoke would not slot back in as the bar shown above moves. Solved by taking the rubber? Endcap off the rack to allow slight movement to re position it.
Took about 30 mins to grind the yoke down using 1200grit oiled strip, using a drill as per pic.
Rather than drilling out the yoke, I used a pin from a cable wall clip, which is the right size & serrated.
