Writing this on behalf of my good friend Rune. Somebody got into his garage and stole the hood from his 1998 4/4. Not only the hood, but the whole thing complete with hoops, tensioners and all. Who on earth could make use of this? Of course it is an insurance matter, but how to get a replacement? There are providers of new hoods, but they state that they need the old hood as a template. And what about the hoops? We have not been able to localise any provider of that so far. Of course we realise that the rest of the season is ruined, living in Bergen, Norway implies hood usage now and then. Does any of the members of this forum have info about what could be done in order to get a complete hood replacement, hoops and all?
Of course we do not expect the hood to turn up in the UK, but if you are offered a beige 4/4 hood you know whom to contact. Any help would be appreciated.

Firstly, I am very sorry for your friend's loss. You are correct it is a very strange thing to happen, annoying for Rune and unlikely to be of any use to the thief.

As to replacement, there are many good trimmers here in the UK who will make a new hood but in my experience, they will all want the car for a few days to fit the hood onto. I've never spoken to one who wanted the old hood as a template, quite the opposite in fact.

Good luck anyway. Perhaps the insurance will pay for a trip to the UK if no one there can do it?

Sorry to hear this. One option is the local classic car scene, they'll know of a good auto trimmer, and probably someone who can recreate the frame.

For the frame, I'd drop a line to Melvyn - there are lots of things that he doesn't pop on the website.

Sorry to hear of your friend Rune's theft Robbie. I hope at least they did not create any damage to the car whilst removing it.

As it sounds so specific in what was stolen it seems to me it maybe was stolen to order without much understanding that no two Morgan's are identical. I wish him luck with the resolution and Insurance claim.

I imagine the only other outlet for it on the open market would be fleabay so it may be worth him taking a look.

p.s. There maybe black painted hood frames hanging around at some dealers where people have upgraded to stainless one's.
