With all the total loss oil residue likely to be flying into the cockpit, I suspect the pilot would not only have a face covering like the makeup on the B&W minstrel show when he lifts his goggles, Given the lack of firewall, the area around his groin seems likely to be rather well lubricated too...?

Have to admit that when I awakened to the idea that I might go off in search of a more involved driving experience, it was following a big old open top vintage Bentley while on my m/cycle, that eventually led me into Morgan ownership. While a vintage LM style Bentley was well out of my price range, fortunately A Morgan came to be (just) affordable in time, though I was impressed with the large capacity of the Bentley, thus when a +8 was suggested, I took that advice.. (-:

My grandmother was a friend of John Alfred Prestwich (JAP), I think in the late 30's and early 40's. My mother, who was born in 1926, remembered being shown through the works when she was a girl. I can't ask her anymore but I am guessing that she would have been at least 13 or 14 so that would put it at about the beginning of the war. She told me that they were building mainly small industrial engines (and perhaps small boat engines) at that time.
It must have been quite unusual at that time for a young girl to be shown through such a factory.
