All I can say Heinz is that my observations match yours about the "wide" rear end of the 4/4 Sport. I don't think it's much. and I think it would be fixable. The front to rear wing overlap is variable over time and certainly before Superform, the narrow rear end of some Morgans produced a running board which was marginally wider than the rear wings, which always looked a bit "handmade" at that time.

If you can measure the earlier axle, drum to drum, that will give you the benchmark.

My 2014 4/4 has a 1:39.1 final drive fitted. From memory 70mph = 3000 rpm in 5th.
It’s Sigma powered with a Mazda box and the change is also mentioned as an entry in the owners manual.

Which month was your 4/4 built in 2014? Was it a special made rear drive ratio? I will check the revs at 70mph.

I’ll check the date and get back to you, it’s definitely lower geared when compared against other Sigma powered 4/4 owners cars.
I can’t tell you if it was a special order or not I don’t have that information sorry but there is an entry in the owners manual stating the change over standard.

It would be very interesting which way it was possible to change the final ratio at all. I would also be happy if 3,9 is available instead of 4.1. Everything shorter than 4.1 would be a positive change regarding my 4/4. If it was done at your car then I am confident I could find the right items with your help and the help of the forum.

Heinz have you contacted the MG owners club in Swavesey Cambridgeshire uk.
They do replacement rear axles & have in the past replaced parts. If you ask them they may have various sizes.
I had an axle changed on a MGBGT quite a few years back. It was a re-conditioned one. Their spares number is +441954230928 but might be worth talking to the workshop manager. Just a thought it may give you a pointer on sourcing an axle in Germany.
Good luck as the ratio change on mine transformed the drivability of my car.

Thanks again for your post, Kevin. I looked at the RPM in the OBD and at the speed today. 70 mph is 112.65 km/h. I drive at 3000 rpm just 119 km/h. That corresponds pretty much to the difference in the differential ratio 1: 3.9 vs. 1: 3.71.
Have you ever driven a 4/4 with 1:3.71 to describe the difference?
Was your axle a prototype, a one-off? Or does your dealer know if this axle can be bought? Even 1:3.9 would be an improvement if I could get one.

I have driven a 4/4 with a 3:7 but it was so far apart time wise I can’t recall the difference.
What I do know is that 5th is very usable in mine when others have commented that not so useable in theirs.

I don’t know the circumstances of how it came to be fitted but it was so it’s a part that must be available.
Not sure how helpful the Morgan factory would be perhaps it was an option? Surely others must have it fitted also. There might even be people driving around in 4/4s totally oblivious as to what final drive is installed.

I’m going to my local dealer end of this week I’ll ask to see if they know anything more.

The specialists who race must be the ones who know the ins and outs of this. Such as Techniques, & BHM.
