M-I-L dies right at the start of the epidemic. Old age not Covid. But she lived in Tenerife for the last 20 years of her life and her husband is burried there. So SWMBO want to fly over there taking her ashes with her. All efforts to persuade her to post the ashes have failed.

We were very fortunate in as much that we could hold her funeral down here in Devon (where she lived) one month prior to Covid hitting us so those that travelled from overseas and different parts of Britain were able to attend.

We'll make her final journey to Thetford later on this year hopefully.

I'm sure DHL will sort you out provided you tell them it's talcum powder for personal use only.

Storm Arwen is just a memory for most ... but here, we finally have the foresters in doing the clearing of the fallen trees.

Just the first bite at the estimated 2500 tons of blow-down and thinning.

Heartbreaking, but has to be done to move on to the hardwood replanting.






Waiting to be shipped out on Kamikazi Artics ... those drivers are on piece-rate and take no prisoners!!

The Kamikaze bit seems to apply to logging trucks all over the world Keith!

Jeez that is a lot of timber K, at least it will help keep the moneygoround turning by providing income and profit, via it`s end product...fingers crossed.

Came across a few timber trucks on our Scotland jaunt back in June, they all seemed very sensible, unlike the person in the Hymer A Class that seemed intent on barging us off the road on the way to Kinloch Rannoch. Fortunately a Morgan 4/4 is nice and narrow.

Like most 'agricultural' products the real cash is up the chain from the producer (went to B&Q the other day and a couple of metres of questionable quality 2x4 was about £7 ... at that rate my trees must be gold plated 🙂) .... because we decided we would break the chain of Sitka monoculture and replant an actual woodland of native species (which will require individual tree-protectors and stakes to get them past the 'murdered by deer' stage) just about all the cash will be eaten up by the replanting .... but then I have no interest in dying rich and a strong interest in leaving something nice behind.

All that being said, I still wish Arwen had blown elsewhere and we could have lived out walking the grassy fire-breaks and paths between the trees in peace and all this upheaval and hassle would have been someone elses problem. 😆

Ps Hamwich .... after crossing Bulgaria on a motorcycle, the second scariest run I've ever done was a couple of years back .... up the A9 from Inverness to Wick and back when there was a big logging job on .... trucks were brutal ... ended up taking to the verge half a dozen times or get squashed! ... only thing the A9 was missing was tanks randomly ploughing straight across the road out of their own smokescreens ... seems like they didn't mind a few civilian casualties even when training (this was back in the Iron-Curtain communist days) .... Mrs Image decided that the Bulgarian Highway-Code had only one rule ... Tanks Have Right of Way!

Likewise re your dying rich comment K, and along similar lines while doubling the size of this place as a self build project that went on and on and on, my hope was that after we passed on, that it would provide a home for others who might enjoy the product of the many years of our labours...

Sorry that things did not work out as initially hoped for, but then that is often the way....?

My plan not to die rich has already begun, in fact there should be very little left by next Friday. Only snag is the doctor says I’m very healthy and should easily last another fifty years😂
