Last weekend we‘re out for about 500Miles in the MOG. I must say: it‘s one of the dry ones. But at this journey it starts with a little water coming in between the easy up hood and the top of the frontscreen. For a fast help I think about Mr. W and a piece of neopren.

But also Mr. W. there was an article in MISCELLANY about the correct DIY repair. For to get the right part, has someone the original MORGAN-part.-no? I must say the Magazine is lost, so I can‘t have a look there.

If its just suddenly started leaking first check your seal in the hood rail and make sure it hasn't folded in on its self especially at the outer edges as this allows water to track along the length. Next, make sure your hood rail is properly seated fully down on the screen top. then check your screen/hood fixing clips, is there enough tension on them to hold the hood rail snugly against the screen top. Often there is not and if the hood is a little tight the vibration allows the hood rail to lift enough to allow water to enter. If you have to adjust the hood clip to screen toggle clip do not over tighten it so that it takes force to clip it down as you can break the weld in the hood frame and it will need re welding.... a real faf of a job! Rather it just needs to be adjusted to hold the top rail in the correct position with just a little tension only!

I use a gel silicone lubricant sparingly wiped into the inside of the rubber channel and find this helps seat the hood to frame easily and helps prevent water ingress. Good luck with a fix. If you need a new seal try the BHM site parts finder or Melvyn Rutter.

Thank you for the fast answer! The seal looks good. I think it‘s settled after six years and some mor than 20.000Miles.

I‘ve had a look at the BHM partfinder, but not shure about the right part (the same with the seat). And I don‘t trust the Germans… The Next German Dealer is the „DÖRR Group“. They are more in „bigger things“ (McLaren Dealer)

When I remember right, I read here about possiblities to fix it without a new seal?

1) some neoprene as an extra layer inside the hoodrail to close the gab to the top of the screen.

2) fiddeling a small (2mm?) rubbercord or -band in the folded area of the seal. The to the front showing part must be filled.

Are these ideas also known? Has someone some expierience with this kind of repair? Was it sucsessful?

I had my seal replaced for around £60 including fitting and it hasn’t leaked since. Not worth faffing around too much for that kind of price. I keep the top rail clean and smooth now. Any corrosion or muck on there can cause the rubber seal to catch and fold over leading to leaks.

Rene, I've used point 2 but with 3 mm sponge cord. It solved the leak.
I only used glue for 100mm at either end.
