My +4 has the electric power steering it is amazing and yes you do still get feedback from the road.

I quite like auto. The Jag, which is soon to go, is auto with paddle shift but Alis, unlike Sue, does not want an auto. We are reducing to only 2 cars (the Plus 4 and something else) so the replacement for both the Jag and the Polo will have to be manual.

If I got an auto box fitted to the Plus 4 I would want the option for manual control. Paddle shift is probably not possible and I don't know if a box with a stick sequential change is available. What I mean is essentially a choice between auto and clutchless manual 🤔

I opted for a manual CX plus four hoping to upgrade the ECU till MMC stuffed that.
Autos are fine but not on a sports car, I prefer the control of a manual. I test the ECU chipped KH +4 auto and found it like the +6 scary . I didn't feel in control

I do enjoy modern automatics, and decades of driving Mercedes who produce some of the best auto's has kind of conditioned me. Sue wants to drive the Morgan more and she hates manuals, well to be honest hates clutches and the fly off handbrake balancing on a hill for a trad, she is not particularly comfortable with as she is quite petit and it becomes a bit of a stretch for her. I also want to share more of the driving with her especially if we go touring, so it reduces the pressures on me. I can put my feet up from time to time and enjoy the ride.

I appreciate you lose some control with an auto, hence why wanting a Plus Four with traction control, which ,would suit Sue but as always life is a compromise.

Its strange, how different characteristics create different sense of safety, when I jumped straight out of the Roadster into a Plus Four demonstrator, I felt safer in the trad because the interior was quite snug. cocooning and comforting compared to the extra space of the CX interior, but I suppose its something you get used to.

I know this may seem a silly question but how does a clutchless manual work in a Morgan?

Factory fitted, it was the press car for being the first +4 to have it I am led to believe.

My Mercs were great in auto for commuting / work.
In my MOG I just want a more visceral manual experience.

A clutchless manual has a conventional manual transmission that shifts gears without the driver having to do anything. My mother has a bad left leg and we bought a VW Up with such a gearshift for her. The car shifts gears and engages and disengages the clutch electronically by itself. Of course, changing gears in the Up takes longer than in a Ferrari. But since it was the only option without a clutch pedal, we bought it. It has worked very reliably for 10 years.

Many thanks for that, do you have a link to any clutchless manual change manufacturers etc, just very intrigued to see what's involved and whether its a better option to putting an auto in. Sue's Smarts had a semi automatic (clutch pedal less) gearbox, but I've not seen a third party clutchless system on anything other than a motorcycle, so can they adapt a standard car gearbox?
