After the photoshopped picture in the other thread, I took a look at some nice mirrors. At least I think they're nice. I'm not much of a chrome-man, myself, but I like these (they're alu):

They're all from Rizoma, but I nicked the pictures from here:

Nice mirrors, but if the production Mogs vibrate as much as alleged, then those hard mounts will make them attractive mobile works of art.

I'm going to investigate rubber mounted mirrors. Or, as a techno-fantasy, image-stabilised CCDs behind active LCD or LED screens in mirror casings.

I bet you can easily mount them on rubber. Surely motorbike accessories are just the thing for a vibrating M3W?

Not many motorcycles that would vibrate like that big donk. I suspect rubber mounting would make it even worse. Just forget about looking in the mirrors and concentrate on the road ahead. Don't forget to head check (look over your shoulder) before changing lanes.

Okay, then, what about this, then:

http://www.reevu.com/moto_product.asp

(It has an inbuilt rear view mirror)

If for nothing else, the mirrors will come in handy from time to time when pulling out from a parking space and whatnot.

Seriously, a mirror put on the handlebars of a motorcycle is getting a lot of "shakes", yet is quite useful on one of those two wheeled thingies. Even on a Guzzi or Ducati.

Actually you would be amazed at how little mirror shake there is on a modern Moto Guzzi or Ducati. The mirrors have actually become useful.

A couple of years ago Guzzi showed a show prototype with video cameras and LCD rear view screens. Given how difficult it is to read a navigator screen in full sunlight I think we can assume they will stay a designer's fantasy for a long time yet.

Yes, and one of the reasons for that is that the mirrors are designed properly, with rubber mounts behind the glass (n the coupling to the stalk). Even formula 1 cars have side mirrors and they feel every little pebble on the track. Rally cars too. I think the only mirrors not suited for something like the M3W are mirrors intended for "classic cars" - reproductions and whatnot.

When I find out when the weight is down enough to give me a choice as to whether to register it here in Denmark or somewhere else, I'll order one. And I'll sure as hell get some mirrors (or one, at least) for it. I have no doubt that good mirrors with a stiff stalk (such as the ones in the OP) will do just fine.

Oh, btw, while my cell phone is crap in the sun and not even close to readable with sunglasses on, I have no problems reading my GPSMAP 62s in full sunlight. My Suunto watch is perfectly fine in the sun too, as is my Sound Devices 722 (audio) recorder. It has to do with contrast, basically.

On my old Ducati I took the mirrors off as all they seemed good for was inspecting the dead flies on my elbows, although it was possible to make out blue flashing lights. I also always felt that on a motorcycle with no mirrors you will always look over your shoulder rather than just glance in a mirror & thus avoid getting sideswiped by the car in your blind spot.

Going on my experience with a vintage trike, the vibration issue may not be a problem.

Yes the engine vibrates, and on a vintage Morgan three wheeler, they are bolted metal to metal with the chassis. However, the body only secured to the chassis at six points, the two are not in continuous contact.

As a result the body vibration is nothing compared to the engine and my mirror is fine and a type sold for vintage cars.
