We decided last year to join a group of Moggers going to the 40 th anniversary event. The UK end was organised by Jim & Jo of Oxmog and the Luxembourg end by Jean-Luc and his fellow members. Our thanks go to all the organisers and especially the Luxembourg Club it was an event to remembered.

We opted for the shuttle and drove from our home near Felixstowe to Mons on day 1. The weather wasn't good but worse was to come.
After 8 hrs in a Mog we walked to the Grand Place for a refreshing ale.


The next morning I found this on the driver footwell carpet. I think / hope it is an alien item. I could find no source for it. But I did find that the steering column cowl misses a self tapper to hold on the bottom end.

Day 2 we drove to Boullion in Belgium to visit the castle with a guide. The rain started in earnest and the drive to the hotel in Luxembourg involved strong winds , falling branches & seriours heavy rain. This was a real shame as the road was a great driving road.



The local club event then started with a dinner followed the next day by a drive to the Mosselle valley for wine tasting followed by lunch at private winery. That night we were bussed into Luxembourg city for a gala dinner.

The following day was driving sinuous roads. Luxembourg has fantastic roads and an ever changing landscape as we found out. Coffee was at a biker cafe and lunch at German castle. Some lesser Italian cars did arrive during lunch and were parked quite rightly in a nearby field.




There were many interesting cars at the event.

We were 36 cars in total and on the last day the Luxembourg Club got us into central Luxembourg City with no one getting lost despite a 4c start in mist . We had our own reserved secure parking and then a guided tour of the city followed by a cheese and wine luch.




Then it was reverse drive back in for once sunshine to Mons followed the next day by a hood up in the rain drive home. Luckily we took Le Shuttle as the wind & rain would have made a ferry a poor option.


So how did the CX do.

The good news is it was a joy to drive , the seats were comfortable and the hood didn't leak.

The heated seats are great in the cold.

The heated windscreen works unlike the trads were some of the wires don't.

Hills Alive cases from the trad work if you don't use the side pocket. Put onto the rear shelf with the tapered end upwards the seats can go back easily far enough for me & the slope on the case allows the hood to used up or down.

The car used no oil or water.

The overall fuel consumption was 42.4 mpg over the 1100 miles including many miles in convoy on back roads.

The bad news.

I broke a tenax fastner on the side of the car.

The round knob bit that sits in the sidescreen fell out.

Despite fixing the wiper arms with loctite and tightening them up the drivers side worked loose in heavy rain near Lille going home (they had been in use most days for many hours). My trusty allen key fixed that but I suspect this could be recurring issue.

The allen bolt holding on the sunvisor on my side worked loose , again the allen key saved the day.

I enjoyed not only reading about this particular journey, but the journey you have started to experience in the move from a trad to the CX and whilst it's still a Morgan and things become loose and so on, the CX seems to excel in (for me) the most important areas. In that, it can cover long hauls, at speed, in comfort, much more quietly and very economical, keeping you dry and warm and you don't have to pack a grease gun any more.

Sounds like a match made in heaven, more precisely what a hand built powerful sports car should do as a matter of course with relative ease. Whilst I'm enjoying the more raw simplicity my trad Morgan, I think its only a matter of time before we move to a CX.

Nice photographs John, thanks for sharing. I am delighted you enjoyed your PlusFour. Your experiences match ours! Comfort, dry, warm, very economic driving. After the last trip to Malvern I had two issues, broken Tenax (why???) and loose wiper arm after many wipes...! It is all sorted now and I covered 16.500 km in it from new, that is in 18 months! We enjoy the PlusFour every time and she is really used!!

Hello John, thank you for the trip photos and the write up.. very interesting.. Ref your issue with the wiper arms coming loose.. We had exactly the same issues on our Plus Six, they became a bit of an issue.. In the end late last year, I purchased a complete new set of wiper arms. I found that the old arms had become oval where they go over the wiper axle splines from tightening over and over again, as the side wedge pushes in and secures the arm to the wiper axle splines it has a tendancy oval the arms cap area.. The new wiper arm caps were much thicker where they go over the wiper axle, so it might be that MMC have introduced another change in that area??.. The change in thickness should resist the arms securing area going oval and thus the arm working loose with use. Since fitting I have rechecked the allan screw many times and only twice did they nip up a very small amount.. So far I have not yet resorted again to Blue locktite.. but maybe that is still needed for assurance. If you go past a dealer it might be worth taking one of your wiper arms off and comparing them with the new... just to check..

John, that tenax is a known weak spot. When one of mine snapped ( they are chromed brass ) I replaced it with a 2-screw version , stainless wood screws and a thin clear gasket. It is possible to drill the broken thread section out but I didn't. REMEMBER.....your hood routine must start and end by releasing the tenax fasteners for raising, lowering or just lifting the rear

In case you spot it.....the fixing is horizontal not angled! Used my ipad and it was angled .
