That is interesting - how much was a factory rebuild , although it is about what they find. I loved the power of both plus eights, yes I did lose the back end on occasions and especial once when having been told how to grass track in a race, just did the opposite and weaved my way in alternating side movements for 50 yards or even 100 before throttling off. Most embarrassing . I have recently spotted my car at an event at Phoenix Motors. I was Googling a pic to show someone abroad who did not know what a Morgan was and there it was first car in a line.
Unfortunately it’s my clutch leg that got a new knee but whilst it feels amazing after so few days, I remember the clutch being heavy. In fact after years of London driving my Achilles tendon hurt with some manuals so we went automatic over the last 15/20 years.That was was why an auto was my initial thought on a new Morgan …….The cost is way to high for me to see as value ( northern Lancashire lad but with Yorkshire values) but I cannot take it with me and a shroud does not have pockets. Hiring abroad I usually get a manual car but a heavy clutch is something I have to consider .
The old Buick/Rover +8 engine (seem to think it was a Buick ) was mighty fast and especially when we put one it in a speedboat normally taking 65 HP outboard - water skiing with no skis anyone ! Those days were fun but I now hate tinkering. We even lifted the engine out of the +4 on the roadside using rope our necks and shoulders as we then did not have a garage Those days now well behind me. Enjoyable, fun but very reliable motoring is what I need from a Morgan . We recently holidayed on a Croatian Island (went by several car ferries) which had 75 inhabitants and few tourists, certainly no garage, all the other cars without numberplates which seemed odd until after a few days & lots of drinks the locals laughed at me non are insured, taxed etc The water police come every 2 or 3 weeks and all the cars move to private land.
Finally I think I saw a post from a guy in NZ from Kati Kati or pus*y p***y we called it when spending a day in its local nudist camp …….sorry if that is too much information and mildly against any forum rules ?? BUT hey I will learn . Cheers Michael
Quite a lot more involved than Brian had planned for Mike, you know the breed well and he was ready to pay a few bob extra to enjoy the visceral experience. It was originally a Buick and only became a usable prospect over here once Rover got hold of hit and the rest is history. Love the story about the boat conversion.
You definitely need to try the clutch out of course before you rest your options, we have another member on here that previously had a Plus 4 auto and subsequently went Plus Four auto due to a left leg issue and loved/loves them.
The Hunter’s Moon is alright but I’m looking forward to Nov 15 and the Beaver Moon, don’t worry about the woke nonsense most of those are long gone 😂
We didn't talk prices but I'm sure Brian (Aeroman) would tell you if you pm him - he works a lot in Africa so may take a bit to reply but he will if he can he's a great guy.
Many moons ago I went to look at a yellow 4/4 at Phoenix but there was a bit of rust at the seams so I walked away it was way before Berrybrook appeared on the scene down here.

Just for the record and to be correct……found a pic of the red plus 8 that went to Japan ( buyer said he was going out with it) was reg no LDV881P and my current one DDV346T. …..that was a quick change of car. Did the red one ever come back I wonder……
Also if remotely interested the current car it can be seen on pics.rogerthomas.co.uk Pic 8 shows Phoenix Motors in orange paint …..I gave Alf 25 gallons of it, not that I was ever in the paint business. As the newbie who mentioned the Afghan wearing young men who sold me my first Morgan, I can now add ‘I went to school with Ian A ‘ of Jethro Tull. He was a year above me and had a 6th form ‘blues band’. They were particularly good and it was obvious to all the boys & the odd teacher, that they would do well. That was way back in the mid 60’s . A lot of bands and musicians from them still playing good music . I think Ian did not make a prefect due to his unusualness & creativity..…?
DAM - Dashed Dreams , definitely dented. ! Disillusioned after a week only on the site. Not with the members of this blog but with MMC. I seem to have learnt that the CX has or had biggish problems - warranty provisions, high financial amounts that you would not expect on a P&L account ? Plus 6 models often pranged due to …….? Younger drivers, poor braking and others mods required ?? High cost, short life and probably going extinct.
Looked last night at Plus 8 prices and was a bit surprised how low they were especially as my 79 plus 8 in the garage will probably cost a good bit to really update and will it be suitable for the driving I want to do ? I’m old but my early work involved driving long distances and running our own business also meant heavy mileage.. Holidays fly drives, For many years we have been driving in Europe and having now fully retired we enjoy road trips . We want to keep doing this, we love it.
The plus 8 did not stop easily, I carried an anchor….whilst I could handle no power steering my wife found it difficult. Thankfully it was reliable as in truth most of my 4 Morgan’s were. South London Lancashire trips in record times compared to the extra 2 hours I now allow. I think I need some modern comforts but ‘definitely’ an auto sadly. The Morgan I need just has to be fully reliable as most modern cars are ( apart from the new Volvo that locked the brakes on, locked in gear, partially blocking the village street my wife had just driven into from park…….approaching 2 days to ‘uplift’ - actually skates in the end. Having made me get petrol as it would not start even though I told them it had petrol, asked by Volvo to open all 4 doors and boot, close to see if it would reboot !! ? I thought we were on Candid Camera ! A softwear issue and updated for all cars as a result.) . So we need a Morgan to travel distance in style, taking by ways and motorways enjoying and giving fun to us and admirers. Should I give up the dream ??? Any consoling agony aunts out there ?

PS Dirty petrol in my opinion is extremely rare having been in the oil industry for 16 years back in the day…….don’t get me started on cheap petrol v dear brands. I was even a Tribology expert once - I remember nothing about oils now! Move on and forget is my mantra.
