Why move to Surrey, surely more expensive . Rolls Royce and now Bristol ? That's where FN have a base, so I guess it does not make sense to run two factories.

All rather sad, first car I went in was Dad's Bristol 400 DHC, first job was as Roll-Royce apprentice at Coventry Bristol Engine Division..... Interesting Richard, you have obviouly had an interesting career.

Apprenticeships, popular back in the days when young people had a choice besides University or flipping burgers, I spent four happy years at the Parkside plant of RR's Bristol Engine Division in Coventry The main gate is on right of pic (taken in1981, my last year there) behind the gatehouse RB2-11 fan cases were machined, the main drag up from the gate was the Puma Road, at the top end you came out onto Mile Lane opposite Coventry Climax works, all gone now of course

Not so much depressing, a liitle sad and a reminder of a era that has now passed This pic gives an idea of the scale of Parkside, the Puma Road bisects the factory site from centre right to centre left, the green space on the right is the London Road cemetery, many of the victims of the Blitz are buried here

Why move to Surrey, surely more expensive . Rolls Royce and now Bristol ? To be pedantic, Rolls Royce are in West Sussex. In their case cost wasn't an issue, it was about branding and prestige.

To be really pedantic, the real Rolls Royce engineering base, Aero and Marine is alive & well in Derby, and a few other locations in the UK. My understanding is that the badge is on licence to BMW.
