The question will arise as to which dealers should replace the long-established and experienced dealers? You can't paint the great new, chic, competent dealers equipped with luxurious launches. Dealers who each buy 50 cars in advance and sell at least 100 a year.

With the large number of used cars on the market not selling and the price drop on CX cars you’re not going to see an entry level Morgan any time soon. There also isn’t much money in it as unlikely they could make one for under £55k with current production costs etc and you could get a very low miles Plus Four for that or any Trad you would like..

I feel sorry for the long standing dealers who are mostly enthusiasts and understandably don’t have the facilities to support selling high end new cars with a £100k price point.. the factory’s London dealer is very fancy as expect they will be hoping to get the majority of their high end UK sales through that or the factory direct sales team. They sold 3 Midsimmers in the UK, all through their London dealership, interestingly 10 to Belgium and similar number to the Middle East, Indonesia etc

Morgan survived for so long because the cars they produced were ridiculous, pointless and outdated; dinosaurs which should have died out decades before. Brilliant cars.
The ultra loyal buyers/fans/owners put up with variable quality and unfinished development.
MMC made special and unique cars, didn't care about competitors........because there were none....!!!

The Italians have invested millions of Lira and they need to make a return, or at least have the accountants show that the company is profitable enough is sell on.

MMC are now aspiring to place themselves at a very high level in a market full of very good competition, a market that they are not good enough for and also don't have the finances to compete in, a market which is saturated with expensive high quality cars.

The fact that 'legacy dealers' are being pushed out or are dropping out shows that the product they are being asked to sell isn't popular enough with the buyers to make a viable business.
Many of the established dealer network have been selling Morgans for decades, they don't need to stock new Morgans to survive, MMC however need the dealers.

I accept there's no going back to trads and 4/4's, the build costs are too high, there's not enough profit with the current business set up.

3 years tops.
Sold on a couple of times, dwindling sales, asset stripped, closed down.🤷🏻‍♂️

The local dealer to me, is Berrybrook at Exminster.
They have diversified by growing their steam business,
They are now well known for selling steam traction engines (large and small), as well as scale models.
Always worth a look, if you’re in the area.

I think a lot of the future for Morgan rests with what markets they target and finish selling in as their traditional markets and customer base may not fit the current product demand profile Morgan is seeking in going further upmarket, I would have thought that the US and Middle East must feature strongly in any future marketing plans.

What I have noticed increasingly with the CX model, more and more are being offered for sale second hand outside the dealership network, one reflecting the overstocking within the Morgan network and secondly the less demanding the CX is (compared to trads) of need for a specialist marque specific network.

Where I would take slight issue with Julian, other than the sliding pillar suspension and traditional styling of the Morgan, I found when I first got into Morgans in the late 80's the car mechanicals, performance etc were very contemporaneous with the company cars I was driving at the time as to the relative levels of kit etc. They have pretty much kept pace, sometimes a catch up, but they offered power steering, air conditioning and so. I think the one area they should have adopted was wishbone front suspension much earlier and dropped the high maintenance sliding pillar. It's most likely the one area that holds back trad sales today, as not many garages let alone potential punters have a grease gun and having to use it so frequently eg take it on holiday with you, is not part of the modern mindset.

My ideal Morgan would be a trad with wishbone front suspension with 5 link rear and there would be little out there to beat it.

What will be will be. I watched MG disintegrate beyond recognition, after so many ill advised management decisions.

Not understanding your customer base actually matters. Building cars you think people want is unlikely to work well.
