Some of you may have seen this VIDEO of rear brake cylinder replacement via Facebook? This video is the amateurism of today of the majority of car mechanics and others to know that for all brake cylinders it is preferable to disassemble even new to add a specific gap if possible with Teflon or graphite which multiplies the lifespan, currently I ride with the rear brake cylinder of the mtw of Charles M that I had replaced because it was seized with 5000KM approximately I only cleaned the rust dust and repolished with very fine scotchbrit the cups had no signs of wear and I also ride with its master cylinder that I cleaned and greased for several years, when I started mechanics in 1976 I already disassembled the new hydraulic cylinders to grease them because there were already problems of lifespan, life span often linked to assembly in a humid atmosphere and lubricant which resembles a light oil which may even be missing.

Well not a bad effort considering it was the first time he had done the job on a M3W....how useful a workshop manual would be! Rather surprised he didn't follow up on the cracked fuel tank brackets, I wonder what condition the front ones were in? That will probably be another video when it fails the MOT test with a leaking fuel tank? I am guessing that was not a higher mileage M3W, still with Avons on the front and almost unused Yokohama on the back, as well as a seized rear brake cylinder. It pays to use them, as well as a bit of rubber grease under the wheel cylinder boot and scheduled brake fluid changes.

It's a 2012, with 11,700 miles but only did 200 the year before, hence why the rear cyl has the potential to seize up.
Lots of previous MOT fails for simple stuff, so not a very hands-on owner ?
