Understood and agree. Not sure why this is the case. I wish mine were located slightly down so that the entire bely would retract. You can buy replacement seat belt button stops, but I've not heard of anyone actually doing it.

I replaced the buttons on my car, mainly for aesthetic reasons, as my belts were droopy when fully retracted. I have removed or replaced the stop buttons on several cars over the years. It's a trivial operation to do so.
