Us baby boomer have been the fortunate ones for sure. My father went to war, my grandfather went to war as did so many generations before....It seems we humans learn nothing from history.

When thinking along these lines I oft remember the poem Rabbie (Robert) Burns wrote where he was saddened by mans inhumanity towards his fellow man. Perhaps a more up to date example of a more up to date example in a similar vein, is that of Dire Straights...

We have no chance of forgetting as it just goes on and on and on and o........

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae

We'll be going to our local Church service on Sunday, it's very important to remember those that gave up so much

We do too it's a really special service as both our families served in the war and lucky enough to survive it, Heather's Grandad was one of the lucky one's to make it out of Dunkirk having spent too much time in the water waiting.

My late Father was a Spitfire pilot and Heather's Dad was Senior gunnery instructor so it's very much in the blood, quite a lot of my work was in parallel to the forces and I liked and respected the way they do things and we owe them everything past, present and future.

Two of our Grand daughters will be wreath bearers on Sunday one with the ATC the other with the Brownies albeit 80 miles apart and 250 miles from us.

The local village primary school always sends representatives and most of the school write messages on the wooden crosses that line the Church pathway during this week, it's so encouraging for the future that the school flags this most important of events.

And a muffled peal of Bells completes the thoughtful atmosphere as the congregation make their way to church in thoughtful mood.

I do agree; he was excellent.

Where I live, due to the proximity of CTCRM - Lympstone , there is always a very large parade on Remembrance Sunday.

I quietly placed my wooden cross by the Memorial yesterday.
(My Dad was captured defending the perimeter of the beaches, at Dunkirk. He spent the war as a PoW).

Their sacrifice for our freedom, must not be forgotten.

I know of two of the lads on here that trained there and familiar with BRNC also - we owe them all for everything we enjoy..

Just returned from our village service. People spilling out onto the road around the memorial. A small but meaningful service made more so by a local piper - not the most accomplished but very moving. Really heartwarming to see little children laying their poppies and crosses at the foot of the monument. A scene repeated across the country no doubt - we must continue to recognise those who served and still do - our freedoms are because of them and not to be taken lightly.
