Hi
Does anyone have the same problem I am currently having with accessing TM images at tm-img.com. My AVG anti virus software blocks access to this site and reports "we prevented your connection to www.tm-img.com because it is a dangerous webpage" The threat category is reported as html: phishing-dql [phish] I have connected many times in the past with no problems.

Hi Image

Thank you for pointing me to the thread. Having read through it and it confirms my understanding of what a Phishing Website actually is. It is a website that tries to look like the log on page of your bank or Amazon or Payal etc. in the hope that you will type in your log on details and hence pass them on to thieves and scammers. As I understand it these websites are usually arrived at via a link in a scam email that you have been sent and foolishly clicked on. Given this I was perplexed as to how TM-Images could be such a website. and have been reassured by what I read in the thread that you pointed me to. So I am convinced that this is an incorrect block by AVG.

For the benefit of others, if you are happy to go to TM Images despite this AVG warning there is a work-around. You can temporarily turn off web protection. Open AVG App under basic protection click on Web and E-mail, click on the tick in Web Shield. You will be asked how long should Web Shield be turned off, the default is 10 minutes but via a drop down selection you can make it longer. This enables you to get to TM Images, do what you need to do and leave AVG to switch the protection back on, or alternatively go back into AVG and switch it on manually.

You can also add tm-img as an exception so AVG doesn't block it. However I have found that didn't work. The best work around is to dump AVG (I have reported the incorrect phishing report several times to AVG) and find a better antivirus software!

Hi Graham

Yes I tried using the exception method but it did not work for me ether. I have also reported it. The other thread on this issue is around early September which was before I signed up to TM so for me this was a new issue. I have used TM image a number of times since then with no problems so after the reports they must have done something. My guess is a recent AVG update has brought the old problem back.

Yes I completely agree with Graham. If you are computer savvy enough to know that image files can't possibly be a phishing attempt then you are already smarter than AVG. And if it can't fix itself after two months of being notified how much confidence can you have in it dealing with genuine threats.

Just don't replace it with Avast which is the same software! For Windows systems, the built-in Defender is all I've used for years.

Hi Ian

Thanks for your input and advice. The only slight problem I have with changing things is the possibility of unintended consequences. For example, we have a Brother Printer which has the ability to scan a document directly to a PDF file on a PC. A feature I use quite a lot. The printer is connected to our PC's via the Local Area Network over Wi Fi. Some years ago this scanning to a PDF stopped working. I believe this was after a Windows update. The only clue was a message on the Printers Screen which said "if you can't connect check the PC firewall settings". The solution was extremely difficult to find on the Brother's Self Serve Support web pages. This involved opening a specific local port for inbound LAN UDP traffic (implying that it will still be closed for WAN traffic) and to do this you had to dig deep into the advanced firewall settings, a place I don't normally go. However, after a couple of days of digging this information out and applying it, the problem was resolved. So for the moment I will live with the AVG nonsense just to see if the next update fixes the problem. If not then I will take your advice, uninstall AVG and use Windows Defender.

Hi All
Latest, AVG have fixed this nonsense. They had obviously fixed this before as I have used TM-Image many times throughout October and the best part of November being totally unaware of the issue that had occurred in September when I was not a member of TM. I reported it on Friday. I would like to think that my report was enough to trigger them in to realising that after all the reports they had received in September this was an issue that they had previously dealt with and hence where able to resolve quickly. We will see.

Too right, I limit myself to the iphone for image site not risking playing around with the desktop AVG - does a great job for us for over 23 years now.

Don't wallet/bank or anything financial on the iphone so not bothered about AVG on it.
