I was wondering whether the spare aircon button on a 2010 4/4 Sport could be repurposed, are there real contacts or is it a dummy?

I had a silly thought yesterday, inspired by Tim Brooke-Taylor in the Goodies.

Dave, on my 2011 4/4 that button will light up if you have it selected & then turn the fan on. I believe it is wired into the circuit board behind the dash & obviously designed for cars fitted with aircon. Probably a way to repurpose it, but not straight forward.
Rog, on here May have more info, as he has done quite a bit with the circuit board.

As suggested David if the switch is there its not a dummy so potentially could be re-purposed. On later models such logic latching switches have four connections as shown below. I believe the later versions of 2006 to 2014 trads employed similar.

The connections correspond to two main contacts and internal LED illumination dim or full brighness, the latter to indicate the selection is active. The problem is, from a mechanical point of view, they have only momentary contacts with the latching on or off performed by external circuitry which adds a whole level of extra complexity unless you can delve into your existing PCB and re-employ the circuitry the switch currently controls. Four the record the simplest single button non IC latching system requires four relays!

Thanks Richard. The silly thought was to have a Land of Hope and Glory button. After all, Elgar was a Malvern man.

I've ordered an audio player board, which seems to have a few ways of controlling it. I'll know more when I get the data sheet and I have some support from people who are better with electronics than I am. I suspect the momentary contact could be used to tigger a burst of a few bars into the Aux socket of the otherwise unused radio.

Ah, yes I thought kit had a link to the fan, though it sounds like it is more of a display than a control. It may be that I should do what a previous owner has done and add a button under the dash.

Apart from the obvious eject switch, what's that above the hazard switch?

I haven't got a clue. It isn't connected to anything. Maybe it was once used as an immobiliser or as a phone charger (USB).

In Belgium the spot lights have to work together with the high beam, so the switch was unused and taped off.
The ejector switch was my daughters idea.
