The Cooper, provided you don't go for the oversize wheels will ride a little better.
I looked at a 2011 cabrio a couple of weeks ago, but the boot was just too small for my use. Aiming for a sun/panoramic roof instead.

My wife has a Cooper, bought new in 2019, 5-doors and a big panoramic roof. The 3 cylinder BMW motor is brilliant with enough power and torque. We love it! Should do well in the cabrio too. Before that we had a Mini One clubman with the PSA engine, that was not without troubles and had a huge oil consumption at the end of its life!

We have 2011 Cooper s clubman, the valve stems leak oil so a rebuild is due including rings. mileage is 94,000. it is a PSA engine which are notorious for burning oil. Cheaper to have a rebuild than to scrap an otherwise good condition car. We will not be buying another Mini even if the newer engine is probably a better unit, electronics have been a recurring nightmare.

It seems the Cooper engines are 3 cylinder 1.5l units producing about 136 BHP whilst the S models have the 2.0l giving 189 BHP. The S is about 1.5 seconds quicker to 60 and has significantly more torque. Mpg figures are similar at mid 40’s but I imagine enthusiastic driving would shave more off the S than to standard Cooper. Bearing in mind this is essentially a ‘fun’ car to replace the MX5 with the occasional need to transport my 92 year old mum I think I’d be happy with either model but it must be the convertible. I’m looking at cars in the £10-£12k bracket which means 2016-8 F57.

The cooper 3 cylinder is now154bhp and the Cooper S 4 cylinder is 201bhp.

That’s quite a hike, my figures are about right for 2016 cars. Not looked at current models.

We have a 2017 Cooper S convertible. Never had any trouble with it and it is certainly not boring to drive! We find the ride is firm but very comfortable., The boot load aperture can be widened (we had to show the salesman how it worked!) to enable a decent sized suitcase to be carried. It was purchased used from BMW dealer and has a high specification of options including full leather etc that we wouldn't have specified if buying new. A terrific drivers car. Purchased it in winter for a better deal!!

Oops, saw this Mini Cooper thread and got all exited...

Could I just point out naming nomenclature chaps?

Mini = that amazing tiny classic work of compact motoring for the 60's

MINI = BMW's take on modernity (& a little bloated) laugh

Many thanks, I'm off to the garage now to pat a proper Cooper on the roof thumbs
