Sounds like Scrumpy territory to me - beware blindness may occur, once said goodbye to 48hours when over imbibing on this stuff one night in Brixham at a party in the 1970's - never again I couldn't stand up for about 36 hours.

Does Joe Marler drink Guinness or Scrumpy BUT if he likes scrumpy and he or any of you are in Somerset, then try The Cider Barn near Haselbury Plucknett. It’s signed off the A30, between Yeovil & Crewkerne. It’s only Fridays but in summer Saturdays as well. Good cider styles, sparking, sweet etc. Also have pop up food stalls and live band, Plus monthly car show and he owns a few vehicles but turn up in the Morgan on a warm summer evening, park in the orchard for a good night out at sensible prices. The farm was making a modest living from selling its apples but now this venture has really taken off and probably a real money earner. MM PS Let you know if I see Joe there……

The first time that I ever got drunk was on cider.’ I was staying, with my parents, at a relatives house at Wells, Somerset. My Dad, uncle and I all drank far too much. Both my Mum and Aunt were disgusted at our behaviour. Never touched the stuff since.
Apparently there are three types of cider.
1. Drinking Cider; 2. Sleeping Cider and 3. Fighting Cider!
My uncle owned a pub in Yeovil that only had cider on tap, he used to brew his own cider in the cellar and out houses. Often when he started a new batch off he would go down to the local farmer and see what game he had, he especially liked rabbits and would throw a few into the cider mash literally for body, at the end of the fermenting process nothing would be left, everything was gone..
One of the best things about Somerset was even when well under age you could get hold of Cider, usually at seaside gift shops they had small pottery barrels of scrumpy cider as souvenir gifts, a little bit expensive compared to a bottle of cider but worth it, it stretched your pocket money but that never stopped us
.You had to be careful with the securing wire around the stopper, lest our parents found out what we were all up to,

I have been told from a reliable friend down here that they used to put rats in for the same purpose before rabbits became unfashionable to eat..
Monty Python sums it all up ... We got the LP out of the Springbok library when we worked in Noordoewer sampling some fabulous quality South African wines for Cents from the Hex River valley, Paarl and Stellenbosch.

One of the Devils brews is a Snakebite, Guinness and cider (scrumpy), many a bad day follows. I was born and grew up in Guinness as my Dad was an executive with the company everything in our house was Guinness, a great company back in those days. My sister and I waited with excitement for the Christmas package to arrive as it contained a huge tin of Collard and Bowser toffees which was owned by Guinness at the time along with other goodies. My bedroom had loads of Guinness promotional pieces such as the full set of porcelain zoo animals and a Sea-lion lamp where the glass of Guinness balanced on the Sea-lions nose revolved round. Wish I still had them would be worth a fortune now, have a few items which I managed to save over the years.
