Whenever scammers call they get treated to my best impersonation of an unhinged looney. Quite satisfying when at my discretion I put the phone down and then block them.

Phone screening is simple - only answer the landline (if you have one) if you recognise the number on caller display.

Set the mobile to only ring if the number is in your contact list.

If it’s important or genuine, they will leave a message.

Simple as that - no excuses.

My landline is also set to ring only if the number is in the contacts list. The phone is a Panasonic and it has this feature as "night mode", I've just set the "night" hours to be all day. I now get very few calls from unrecognised numbers, I think after a certain number of attempts I drop off the spammers' lists.

We just don't answer the land line at all. Like Clipper, if we get a call on our mobiles that we recognise then we answer, otherwise we let it go to voicemail.

We have call screening on the landline so they never get through. If I have time & get a call on my mobile my alternative persona Mr R Soul who has an email account at mickeymouse.com leaps right in.
The best is to cut the call just before they try to close the scam or if they ask for a card say yes I have the ace of spades.

I feel wasting their time is a publicservice as they aren't scamming others.

That would stop all the fun though!
I actually took the phone out of the study during redecoration a few months back and have not put it back in yet. I don't seem to be missing it and all my friends only use my mobile anyway. Going to cancel the landline (but keep the broadband)

I have been without a landline for about 6 years. Initially it meant paying for a landline, but not using it - as BT insisted on broadband customers having a landline with their broadband. This policy has now changed.

Friends with landlines usually say "I never answer it, my friends call my mobile".

Answer all scam calls with "Yes, this is his/her phone but sadly he/she died yesterday".

Haven't had a landline for 5 years, if the number is not in my contacts I just reject call if it is important they will ring back. Scammers never ring back on the same number.
