Scammers almost always use call number spoofing, so blocking the number has no effect, except perhaps to block the occasional genuine call. I once received a call purporting to come from my own landline phone number

Sounds like you’re still making it a bit harder than it needs to be on the mobiles.(except if you enjoy being called).

Getting incoming spoofed calls several times a day is still a nuisance.

Now on my iPhone settings any incoming call not listed on my contacts doesn’t ring but it shows on the call log if I care to look - works a treat.

Interesting to read that we seem to have adopted similar methods of dealing with marketing and other such phone calls. my phone rarely rings these days, though over the last few days I have received at least 3 calls per day from three different London numbers 10 calls in total, and ignored them all, as I suspect any person or agency of any kind will either text or write as I would expect they will have alternative contact details..? A text finally arrived and apparently it was from LOVE ENERGY SAVINGS ... I suspect "they" may be a marketing arm of the gas/electricity distribution network trying to convince the population to change over on to "smart" meters....?

OK, OK so it may seem I am beginning to be suffering a degree of conspiracy theorist overload, I do wonder if "they" are pushing ever harder to have everyone on Smart meters...? One of my relatives who`s bills over Summer/Winter have been much the same for years, was told that they must have a new meter installed as the old one was due for calibration, and as the old style meter which they had had been superseded by smart meter, then that is what would be fitted in it`s place.... Whadaya fink..?

With regard to smart meters, we had two installed. The gas meter never connected with the supplier. Eventually they replaced both meters and the gas meter never connected. The meter holes are in the outside wall, facing a wall about eight feet away which can't help. Then they decided it was because they had two gas meters listed for us, and would fix it. That didn't fix it. The electric meter connection is intermittant so now they send me an e mail every month asking for a meter reading. Once they told me the readings were bollocks, but two photos fixed that.

My house already had a smart meter when I moved in, not had any problems. A meter reader arrived a couple or weeks ago to read the gas meter (after 3 years) the reading was the same as the smart meter.

I think I read there is a north/south divide with smart meters - something to do with how they send the readings. South is much more reliable and accurate than North.

Several years ago in our previous house an attempt was made to fit a smart meter. It failed due to very poor mobile signal.our best signal was upstairs so when I queried getting a signal booster ( I think EE would do it but we were not with them) the tech just had a blank look on his face. At the time businesses could install one in their premises but not private individuals. Radio frequency restrictions. We just had a newer meter fitted to replace the old one.
We currently don't have one but would if we fitted a better tafiff.
As for scam calls, we ignore any from unknown sources.
I used to answersome using the response...
Heddlu Dyfed Powys Police. Who is calling? That caused delayed reply and I'd respond with..calls to this number are being transferred to us as part of an investigation. Calls reduced as expected.
Current policy......unknown not answered and voicemail. Hardly any voucemail messages.

Calls get past TPS. BT landline going in Jan but the message says if you called me on this number then you have my mobile number. Switching from very expensive BT/EE copper wire to fibre broadband. 1/3rd the price and 8x faster.

I’m a bit behind with it, but be careful if you’re thinking of staying in Ambridge, Borchester, as there is a holiday home rental scam going on.

You might think you have booked a luxury cottage but could end up sleeping on Jazzers sofa.

Smart Meters, what a joke not fit for purpose. We are in a good reception area & the gas meter is 8 ft distance from the elec meter & coms unit.
Elec works on In home display, but not gas. Plus the tariff we are on, is not what the IHD works on.
As we all pay for their installation imho it is fraudulent. Both meters seem to be sending correct readings, but to be honest I don’t trust them.
As already said whoever is responsible should be “let go”
