Hello,

I would like to buy a new distributor cap and a distributor rotor for my 93 plus8 3.9 (Distributor Lucas 35DLM8), as the old parts are already over 30 years old (but they still work).

Original parts are no longer available from Rover. Aftermarket parts are often of very poor quality. The "original" Lucas indicator switch I bought (new!) had 4 (!) electrical faults and the fastening threads were bad, so I had to rework everything.

Now I'm asking which brand I should prefer for my distributor parts. Lucas in green boxes or Lucas in red boxes (what's the difference?) or others?. Do you have any experience?

Sorry for my bad English, but school's out for many years.

Greetings from Sauerland (Germany)

Günter

Hi Gunter, I have a good relationship with my local autofactor and he had one of each on the shelf for my 1999 Plus 8 and 20,000mls down the line no problems.

Non Lucas items.

I fitted new leads and spark plugs at the same time and still pulling like a train up to 3,750 when required..

Rotor Arms. Avoid Lucas ones I have had endless trouble with them cracking and losing rivets holding the metal part securely to the body on my 1980 carb +8.
I use ones from the "Distributor Doctor" https://www.distributordoctor.com/ And so do many from other car clubs. (I have no connection to the Company)

Even though your dizzy may work ok it will be very worn, including the bearings and advance springs, at that age. Rather than just add a cap and rotor arm I would recommend a Dutch made 123 electronic dizzy. These are not cheap but of the highest quality with a choice of advance curves.
