I am getting ready to start up a newly rebuilt TR-3. The carbs ( HS6) that came with the car do not seem to be correct. Both front and rear have the fuel (petrol?) bowls on the left side. THe repair kit included a left and right jet assembly, resulting in a misfit on the front carb. I can continue with the startup, but this is obviously not the correct configuration. Does anyone have a picture of a similar car that is rigged correctly? Thanks in advance.

Looks like you have two front carbs instead of a front & back pair.

Is there enough room at the front for a float chamber to fit? The wing is quite close.
The problem with having the float chamber that close to the exhaust manifild is heat soak. Although your set up may not have had a heat shield originally, I would definitely fit one now, especially with that arrangement.

This one on the link appears to show your set up.
"TR3 TR4 AUC878 SU H6"

A quick surf on Google pictures shows that TR3's did have carbs like this, but the ones I saw had both float chambers on the other side.......

Although i was very young when SU,s were around is it not the fact that that configuration is from a Transverse engine as apposed to an authadox set up !!!!

Thanks to all. The link to the American SU website is great. It appears that I have lots of choices, as long as I don't want to return the car to "factory correct". I get the point about heat soak, and will definitely take that into account.

Thanks,
Rick

Surely it is not that difficult, or expensive, to find the correct carb. Have a look at this site http://www.britishclassicmotors.com/

You may even be able to do a deal and do a part exchange on your incorrect carb.
