Yes he does -- and so did our late queen's consort. Prince Philip consistently over many decades vetoed any kind of award for the late, great, Englishman David Niven: A man who did not run off to California in the war like so many thespians of the time but stayed and fought in the navy. While the British great and the good of the theatre and movies were all getting awards post war -- many were knighted -- the Duke of Edinburgh assiduously crossed out Niven's name from the lists for anything whenever he saw it. He held the grudge right up until David's death in 1983. He and (Sir) Roger Moore were neighbours of mine in the early 80's in Chateau d'Oex. We both attended David's funeral. Afterwards Moore told me the reason David was left out in the cold was because he got slightly tipsy (as he was want to do) at one of Princess Margaret and the then Princess Elizabeth's popular soirees in Buck House. Unfortunately Philip overheard David saying to someone "oh God, she's with that greasy Greek again". He never forgot.
