I have finished 2024 in my 1982 Plus 8 by hitting a pothole. One tyre damaged, and one wheel rim bent. I am yet to check the new rattle in the rear end.
Until i can find either a replacement wheel, or have mine repaired, I am wondering if there is an easily replaceable wheel that I can use as a temporary spare.
This is a comment from a knowledgeable sounding merganser on another thread 'The Plus Eight front hubs originated from the Rover P5 and P6 and the thread size from memory is 9/16 UNF", but it was some years ago.
Does this mean that if I can find a P5 Rover wheel from a wrecker, that it would fit my Plus 8 in an emergency?
If anyone can help with that question, it would be great.
Happy New Year/Hogmanay.

So an alloy not a wire wheel?

There is an add here for a cheap pair of Roadster lightweight wheels and tyres IF they would fit.

If it's an original MMC alloy, if you clean up the inner face you will find the data cast into it

Are you on 14 inch or 15 inch rims?
My 1980 +8 originally on 14 and switched to 15s.

If your car has the 14" Millrace alloys, then there is a set for sale on Facebook. I have no connection with the seller, save to say that I think he's the chap I bought a '54 +4 from in 2008. Small world. Here's the link. If you don't do Facebook, send me a PM and I'll make contact with the seller.

Thank you for such quick replies and Happy New year.
It is an original MMC alloy 15" x 6 1/5" rim.
There is a business an hour or two away that may be able to repair it. They open on 17th January.
I have also emailed the factory for a potential replacement on insurance.
I was just wondering about any other five stud rim from a wrecker as a temporary fix. Rover, Australian Holden, Jag, or whatever.
We have what we call "Petrol Sniffers' Picnic" in a week or two, and its an hour and a half away so I would like to have some sort of spare on board.
I am in Australia, you may gather from the name of the gathering in a week or two.

Hello Jinty, yes P5b rostyles will fit. You may need about 3-6mm wheel spacers, depending on wing width, unless you use open ended wheel nuts: the offset is slightly different, and closed cap ones won't go on all the way.

Thank you Treesurveyor,
If I can dig one of those up it may get me out of trouble until insurance buys me a new rim, or I get the old one repaired .
