Sadly, guys the term 'windmill' for what we call 'turbines' (making electricity rather than milling grain) ... is perfectly acceptable in some areas and appears as such in multiple dictionaries. No accounting for the flexibility of language 🙂

Yes you could. Octopus only allow one make of inverter to do that right now and mine is not approved.
But I have 4.2kWh storage only, you would need more which is why cars are interesting.
The lowest ican buy in 15.44 p per unit and export at 27.44p max. Assuming 10% losses you would make money.
Each 2.1 kwh battery is £1k roughly so at 10p per unit that a say 20p per day savings.

I have just ordered a system through my local council's "Solar Together" scheme. I only realised this "wheeze" was possible when the surveyor doing the site survey mentioned it ... consequently, I've doubled the battery capacity to 10kWh.

This is where one needs to do the sums appropriately for one's situation and consumption profile. I can buy in at £0.08 overnight but I don't get anything for export so it doesn't make sense for me to have a battery that is too large. I charge 7KWh overnight and then use it in the day when I would be paying £0.30 for the power, so I save around £45/month. In the summer I give loads of power back to my supplier and earn nothing for it, but I'm happy to support Ecotricity, I like the company ethics and a fair few of my mates work for them.

The only thing I would change about my installation is that when I had mine installed the technology to isolate the panels from the grid in case of an outage was pretty expensive, now it's very feasible, so if I were to do it again I'd go for a Tesla Powerwall with 10KWh that would give me grid independence for 24 hours. Mind you, in the nearly 40 years we've lived here we've never had a power cut longer than a few hours so it's a pretty low risk I reckon.

Well I think that is pretty disgraceful on several levels.
For instance.....yet more perks for the well off whilst poorer people who can't invest in the tec have to pay more than ever for their energy.
For instance.... it's a hideous thing for the environment...the losses of actual energy in the conversions to and from the batteries....and the environmental cost of manufacturing the big batteries involved and the cost to the following generations of disposing of the things.
I'm quite shocked.
Should we feel guilty at this done in the name of ecofriendliness? Yes, very much so.
