Rarely, do we experience a frost let alone snow here on the Fylde Coast, perhaps only 10 to 12 times in the 40 years I've lived here, this is the second time its snowed this winter, so I thought I would share such a rare occurrence with you. So from our window, we woke up to this

The last image is from St Annes Town Hall web cam, with a view of the pier and snow on the beach It will be fleeting appearance, rain forecast later today to clear it away

Rain here in Llanelli. We are on the north side of the Loughor estuary, Gower to the south. The coastal location ( sea is about 400m away from the house) so the sea has a big influence. SW winds are the norm.
Cardiff city had snow and icy roads, sospan jnr lives there in Canton area.
We used to live about 4 miles inland about 500' above sea level so had more weather events. Cloud, rain, snow, sunshine etc. We dis get cut off there during a couple of heavy snowfalls several years ago. We moved down to the town edge for retirement, to a good, convenient location. The site was a private steelworks I worked at until closure in 1980. Landscaped pist closure and now a nice spot with a lake, walks, pub and co-op shop very close, easy walk into town.
The Beast from the East was entertaining! Spray from waves on the lake up on the bushes/trees, ice on the lake. Last winter we had "creeping ice" on the lake, thin layer blown onto the shore and breaking up. I'll dig out a video.

We are about 400 yards at the end of our road from the beach. The sea does have a big influence on our weather, we rarely get a frost but go a few hundred yards further inland and frosts whilst still quite rare are more frequent. We have only seen the sea freeze twice here, the last time was in the cold snap in the winter of 2010 when it got down to -15c in early January during the day. I remember it well, I was out on scaffolding helping the painter finish off some work, he had to thin the paint so much otherwise it would freeze. Not recommended but had to get some gloss on the new window frames. As it turned out it was into early April before it was safe to take the scaffolding down. Strange thing this weather, the same time the following year we had daffodils in full bloom before Xmas it was that mild,

Well, the snow makes a change from the rivers of sand that blow down the street during the winter storms. One thing to do if you live quite close to the beach is always check your attic following a stormy season as there have been a few occasions where the ceilings have collapsed from the weight of the sand in the attic.

Don't you just love this increasingly unpredictable weather, the flooding across the UK is becoming quite worrying with it's increased intensity and poor unfortunate effected people.

Sospan, I have never heard of that, if you can dig it out I'd be most interested to see that phenomena.

Will do Rich. It reminded me of similar on the Great Lakes where MUCH more ice came ashore and even damaged buildings. It was a video on you tube.

We were at a family event yesterday in Sutton Coldfield. All the Mway signs going had dire warnings, the TV & radio plus me office made you think a white out was coming. we had tops 1inch of snow overnight. Driving back the roads were clear & by Cambridge temps were in double digits.
I know UK drivers are crap in snow but crying wolf like this helps no one.
