It's a double edged sword, do you under or over egg it when it comes to more unusual UK weather eg snow as we are ill equipped to deal with it. When they understate or overstate the forecast, either way they are hammered. With it being a weekend when you tend to find more Sunday drivers on the motorways etc, I prefer they overstate conditions to discourage unnecessary travel.

I know John but honestly we still have a weather warning for snow in place.

That makes it a joke.

How quickly we forget the inaccuracies of former weather and traffic conditions in decades past compared to today.

I watched the Big Snow of 82 last night, I remember it well, I was caught up in the first big storm when heading from the Midlands up to Newcastle upon Tyne, I was one of the last cars to cross the M62 before they closed it for 3 days, The A1M because of the long standing Co Durham road gritters dispute/strike was untreated and as the north side was blocked by snow drifts. I finished up on the heading south side of the dual carriage against oncoming traffic. I remember seeing the Police in what appeared to be a few inches of snow, when they were actually on the tops of cars etc prodding long rods down as they worked along the road to see what was under the banks of snow. That first storm I seem to remember killed 6 people who were stranded in their cars on the A66.

The forecast before I left home was light patchy snow.

A bit like that hurricane that Michael Fish missed. I knew it was on the way, even though I was out in the Atlantic at the time, but I have related the story a number of times. The TV documentary programmes still can't get that one right!

Two work vans outside neighbours - seems the ones who only get paid if they turn up to work make an effort, while the staff who get paid anyway, even if they don’t show up, don’t bother - funny that.
