I've always like B GTs, and to this day the shape to my eyes is timeless. A properly restored and maintained example would make a cracking daily car, especially in Frontline LE60 form.

For me, that job goes to the Landy. Enormous fun to drive and capable of everything I could need - especially in this weather!

I did that for many years - my daily driver was a 1962 S2A (petrol). Great in all weathers, but the 55mph top speed was a little frustrating for other drivers, and the 14mpg was hard on the wallet. I gave up in the end and used to commute to school on the bike.

I converted to lpg which improved things, but access to pumps was limited and range was low. Should really have done a Tdi conversion.

Agree on the looks of the BGT (though I only owned a Roadster - WFK788K).
As you well know, Defender 90 is my choice too smile
Not that I'll be driving it to Montrose in June laugh2

I was vaguely thinking of a 2-night winter dash in mine up to the Applecross Inn in February, thought it might be quite fun. But the fuel bill is putting me off!

Nice thought, though "dash" might not be quite right word when applied to LRs laugh2 Had a week in Northumberland in mine while Sue was still alive.
On the drive home spotted Dave W in his yellow Mog going north having just collected it. Couldn't tell it was Dave across 4 lanes and a central reservation, but the timing fitted smile

I had one of those Roamerdrive overdrives fitted to my Td5, an excellent improvement, it's now capable of 70mph motorway cruising at sensible revs and noise levels. Fuel consumption is still only around 28mpg, though, thanks to the aerodynamics.

I have a similar Roverdrive (probably predecessor of yours), plus taller (750) tyres. Tend to run at 60 to 65 mph though, again due to barn door aerodynamics smile
Of course I forgot our longest LR trip, in the pre-Defender 127, Culkein Drumbeg (Assynt) for a week. Still had the collie-X then, though it was his last year. We did get up to the north coast. round to Loch Eribol, to get a photo of HMS something or other.
We seem to have strayed from MGBs laugh2

IOn a trip to Spain I used to get 30 mpg out of my TD5 though I kept it to 105kph most of the way. On reflection got about the same mileage in my Puma on the same journey despite its 6 speed box and more modern engine.

Triumphs of a similar era seemed to be no better or worse than MG`s... I suspect we Brits were very fortunate to have quite a few to chose from...? (-:

Not sure I would class a mig welder for repairing rusty bodywork as "minimal basic tools".

Changing the £5 fan belt involved removing wheel, inner wing, airbox, airflow meter and engine mounts - that was the last straw.....

But like Lugger you are missing the point. A modern car having far more facilities and way greater performance is inevitably more complicated for roadside maintenance. But the point is that it doesnt need such maintenance - reliability is in a different universe to oldies like MGBs. My Lotus Elise ( remember Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious) was over 7 years the most reliable sports car I have had never once needing anything doing to it. OK it had the Toyota engine not the Rover one.

My wife's Smart Roadster, sadly sold this week after 18 year ownership had only one problem in our ownership - the Bosch crankshaft position sensor earlier this year.

Neither of these cars had spare wheels because modern tyres are so much more puncture resistant. Never a puncture in either of them.
