Not sure the last 'improvements' were for reliability - more for cost reduction?
There's nothing wrong with a belt drive.
Don't see many Super3's here in France but there are a couple in Northern departments, Nestor will know them all.

The belt drive is very good
It does not require any maintenance
The only inconvenience is hearing
The belt sings and makes a rather unpleasant high-pitched noise
But this problem can be easily solved by applying a product initially used for electric bike belts
It was the mechanic from Morgan Belgium who recommended this product to me, which must be reapplied every 500km

yes,the belt songs and cries/high pitched noise
Are you using" belt care" with your drive belt in the super 3??
what about the dirt and dust and salt ,that is stirred update.??
and what happened,if reapplied only after 1500 km?.

any modification is a cost, knowing it ain't a big seller, I doubt changes are made to build it more cost-effective

if they could lower the price by 15K £, sales would probably improve, but that would mean overall cost-cutting or re-negotiation with the suppliers

From experience with the very similar M3W belt drive, the only way to make it run quietly is to get the alignment correct. That is not a quick or easy task but it does work when you get it all running in line. Some of these belt coatings are better than others but they only work for a limited amount of time before needing another application.

Belt to chain drive is a simple cost reduction as its just a straightforward set of replacement parts and also probably attempts to cure the drive wheel/swing arm misalignment with the bevel box/tub...aka belt whine.

Carbon fibre material front mudguards changing to steel material is definitely aimed at reducing the cost of build.

Lowering the price by 15k - but MMC (and dealers) have been doing this for a while now, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if you turned up at MMC tomorrow with £35k you could be driving away in a new S3...

I will chip in with a hearty agreement here. After going through two stock aluminum sprockets, then the SuperMax, then finally settling for the newer stock steel sprocket I did them all. Tried silicone sprays with the same results. At first spraying the belt and assembly does quiet it down quite a bit but it wears off. The steel sprocket finally made it reasonable and still, I had to tweak the alignment until it was just right. What I have now, at post 55,000 miles is a reasonably good system.The belts are practically indestructible and will last up to 100,000 miles with care on a bike.

I still get noise, but that is usually a symptom of driving it hard at speed. At those points everything is loud. It's a loud, open cockpit car with a very noisy drivetrain that was all filched from the last century. It's supposed to be noisy!
