I think the wooden chassis was more applicable to the somewhat ugly (but very quick) Mini Marcos up until about 1969. The bigger Marcos as pictured had a steel space frame chassis of square section tubing with a variety of power plants over their relatively short production life.

The first gen Marcos had a structural floorpan (effectively chassis) of marine ply IIRC. This was soon superseded by stronger structure.

Back on topic.
When I started work as an apprentice, in a firm that made stuff for the MOD, I was keen on Lotus cars but could not afford one at the time. Racing karts did not help the finances either. I've only had two Lotus cars and am now back to one, the Elan, that makes such a contrast to my +4 GDI.

Ford V8 Pilot for me.

As a young teen a school mates brother worked at Jaguar on the engineering side but had a Pilot at his parental home in Thorpe and let us drive it up and down the long drive and so the V8 love affair began. Not many years have passed in my driving career of 56 years without one in the fleet, I still remember the tall Redex Glass bottle roped onto the running board as the fuel tank had rotted out - we saved our pocket money from the paper delivery rounds for petrol to enjoy this fun.

My Dad had a 1958 car that he bought from a friend in 1961.
That car took us on some epic adventures across Europe.
It triggered my love for travel and the freedom a car can afford.

My first car 1937 MG NA so much fun, can remember hurtling down hill on the A12 4 up at 80 mph (indicated) using both lanes to keep her on the road.

If we are widening the search to family/parent cars then my Dad's Jaguar MkX was a great car, I remember the journeys from the Midlands down to Brean in Somerset every summer before the M6 and M5 interchange spaghetti junction was built, you could only get on the M5 at Worcester. For the 2 years before the permanent 70mph limit was introduced in 1967, he would floor it down the M5 for as long as possible nudging an indicated +120mph not bad for a 2 tonne car, egged on by the chorus of 'go faster' from us all on the widest back seat ever produced in the world. We were fixated on the speedo and the fuel gauge as it emptied at an alarming rate, once Dad switched over to the 2nd petrol tank (part of the deal) he would ease off to a more steady 80 to 90.

He took us across Germany in the late 60's on some pretext of a Military Police reunion in Germany for men only (boys included) jaunt, leaving Mom with our sister at home.in his Jaguar 420G and had that flat out at indicated 130mph probably closer to 120mph Did all the Rhine valley, great trip. Dad was a bugger for using the intermittent speed hold. a switch on the dash by the steering wheel to kick the gear box down and hold it down , the front of the car would lift and the back go right down on its haunches as he accelerated past other cars. Great days, no seatbelts, clambering in and out of the front seat of the car as we drove along according to how the mood took us, to help break up the journey and to continuous chorus of are we there yet.

Starting with a car that wasn't mine ... back when I lived in Wales finishing school a mate had an Ivory White MG Midget with red leather interior ... great little budget sports car round those quiet twisty A roads through the mountains ... set a benchmark for my motoring life.

One that was mine ... my bright red Triumph GT6 ... loved that car for its shapeliness and inline six.

The lotus 7 in the Prisoner intrigued me. We didn't have a car then. Dad had a scooter. I would walk to primary school past a Lotus 7 with the bicycle wings & polished alloy bonnet plus thoase bullet hole stickers.

That was probably the prettiest version of the GT6 with the squared off rear Kamm tail.
