Think on here I saw someone stripped and polished the alloy pillars.. which could be a another cost free option One of the main dealers (Ledgerwood) some years ago used to offer a chrome plated version done to your own pillars, they soon stopped as the alloy at times was poor and had inclusions that bubbled through the chrome plating after a year or so (& it cost around £400) I think Peter J had them chromed for Aldermog possibly at Morganpark.

I certainly don't know the material science details or metallurgical ins and outs of the screen pillar coating issues, but......... I never understood how MMC weren't able to make the coating stick to the metal.........! It always seemed like a fairly basic task......🤷🏻♂️ The finnish would bubble up very quickly from new.
A lot of cars also have bodywork paint bubbling issues, edges of rear wings, corners of doors, the panel below the doors, bonnet corners....... infact...... most of the car....😆 Is it a paint issue, an aluminum issue, an application issue...... a bit of everything....? I think land rover had similar problems getting the paint to stick to the aluminium....🤷🏻♂️
*****Doubtless there'll be folk outraged at the very suggestion that MMC have ever had QC issues and will maintain that their car has never suffered from any faults.....!!😆******

*****Doubtless there'll be folk outraged at the very suggestion that MMC have ever had QC issues and will maintain that their car has never suffered from any faults.....!!😆****** To be honest I would suggest its poor preparation and poor application of the paint material's, possibly is there moisture or contaminates under the paint and/or poor post paint handling and assembly . You eg see bubbling around the wing indicators which questions whether the paint is either thinly applied in that area, chipped or exposes bare metal when putting the small side indicators in. It just takes me back to the pre 1985 days, when the cars were painted with the wings attached, with spray on all wing beading that used to crack with the chassis flex and the inner untreated body and wings used to rot away, especially if steel body and ally wings/ Every time I came back from a drive in my CVH, I had to get the touch up paint to fill in the cracks in the beading, otherwise if left rain and moisture would get in-between and accelerate the corrosion process. So I suppose on reflection things have improved but not by much. It kind of reminds me of the cellulous painted cars, when new they would look really pristine then within months the brilliant finish and shine would wear off.

The Aeros certainly had paint issues, but it's not something often heard about modern trads. There was that blip when headlamp nacelles suffered cracking, but that was short lived. After 20 years my Roadster still has no signs of lifting or bubbling......there's tempting fate, but it does have orange peel, and sub surface lines, which you wouldn't get on a modern car, and maybe not on a CX.
The risk with buying new is that you don't see the paintwork until it's done, whereas with a used Morgan it's all there. My GDI is probably 95% on the paint but I know where the flaws are. Just some slight sinking which should have been picked up in PDI.
The more irritating aspect is a couple of issues with the leather. One is a flaw in the hide, but very visible on the n/s inner sill. The other is the drivers door top rail which is not stretched enough so is wrinkled. I didn't chase it up, because, well, they are all like that sir..........

I did try my very best to not say.......... "they all do that sir"......!😆
BUT.......... there's a fair chance that they all do/will at some point........
It's a Morgan, it's hand built (assembled), it's built in an old shed in Malvern......It's all part of the unique ownership experience......... Accept.....embrace.....enjoy.......😆🇬🇧

Yes Dave, The leather on my inner sills is appalling as well! Flaws on the hyde in several places both sides and poorly rectified, ie 5 year old with a tin of humbrol look! Just not good enough and knowingly fitted where they thought it didn't matter! Seat backs seem to be an issue as well, not sure how they get them to fit so badly!

My + 4 went bavk to the factory twice for cracked nacelles apparently they had been glued in rather than welded. The second time they welded them and no further problems.
