Makes a lot more sense! thumbs smile

I had a new Mercedes on loan if you don’t indicate to go off down a slip road it will pull you back on !( I know I should indicate ,)
Also if they have put temporary white lines on a carriageway and not been removed fully the car can follow those lines.
You have to switch it off every journey !

It is all part of mandatory (EU led) rules, encompassed by GSR2. In short, those are:

Advanced emergency braking: Now includes new calibration.

Alcohol interlock: Provision for this until a reliable sensor can be developed.

Driver drowsiness distraction: Will move to advanced infrared camera tech in 2024.

Electronic data recorder: Better known as a black box. Harmonised with US regulations.

Emergency lane keeping system: Steers car away from crossing the road’s central white line.

Intelligent speed assistance: Warns driver of speed limit. Could overrule the driver in the future.

(source Autocar) and...

If you have the desire to read further on GSR2

God help us all as those of us who have spent their careers in electronics know exactly how fail safe these things will be. Nanny states gone totally bonkers, that's it I'm off out in the Plus 8 - and breathe oldgit thumbs

Increasing the age of youngsters driving with passengers would be a good idea and progress though.

p.s. Thanks for the link to Armageddon wink

BMW need to add that - might remind the swear drivers to use their blinking indicators! grin2

(Sorry thread drift, but EV's weight is going to bring this issue more to the fore so I thought it worth mentioning)

I bought the older S212 version of the E series estate instead of the S213 for the very reason that it has less nanny, less complexity to cost a fortune in MB parts and actually allows you to drive it and not the other way around. Sadly it still has this annoying lane keeping nanny.

I always switch off lane assist now. I was trying to drive around a BIG pothole a short time back and the stupid system resisted my input and shook the wheel like a dumb animal as it tried to follow the white line on the narrow road. So I hit the edge of the pot hole. Instant puncture and cracked alloy.

Nanny says no. Nanny can get stuffed. I turn her off all the time now. If I could find an electric joint to solder like the old days I would,

The MB price for one alloy is £900 (+vat) for a generic cast alloy. They checked the others at the same time and found cracks in a second one which had been slowly dropping pressure. For less money I have now ordered a full set of far lighter and stronger OZ forged alloys.

Watching the kerb weight of BEV vehicles climbing by an average of 400+ Kg I do worry about how our UK roads are going to work with those as I doubt any of them are more than simple cast alloys. At least they seem to be fitting narrower and higher profile tyres in most cases.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

One advantage of my 2023 Volvo V60 is that nanny can be kept in her cage at all times. Lane keeping has to be activated after switch on.

Picked up the car today from Leamington Spa and am very pleased with it. I'm gettting 3m / kWh and it is a quiet smooth drive. The range was well over 200 miles today so locally it will be a great cheap tin top.

The only trouble so far was finding to gritters on the A14.
