... we had a stop booked at the Hotel de Paris with the aim of re-enacting the Only Fools and Horses episode. A great picture Alistair, and quite an experience. I'm not sure of the Only Fools... connection though, that must be an episode I missed. For me, the Hotel de Paris is synonymous with The Persuaders!![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2025/01/26/Persuaders-01.md.jpg)

OF&H episode https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_They_Could_See_Us_NowThey finally make it rich in the previous episode and invest it. They then go on holiday to Monaco. The investments tank and they run for it. Maria laughed so hard when she saw this episode and we promised that one day we would go there (and possibly have to do a runner as well when I did the booking and found the prices). I did five years in an insanely busy US tech startup and took no holiday so we banked it and went on what they call "a bender" at the end. I will admit I did feel like a total imposter staying in that hotel. The funny thing was the staff said it was one of the most attractive cars they ever had and could they put it there each day. I have found a picture of it by the steps. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/01/27/IMG_1606_zpsxhxvporc.jpg) When we hit Positano the garage put it in a corner next to the local Ferrari and also the Police chiefs car. It was hilarious trying to drive down the tiny road into town as everyone was jumping out to take photos of it, I must have nearly flattened dozens of people. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/01/27/FA9D9D9C-4891-4CAB-89BD-63496C86B128_zpstmpcja3c.jpg) I still think they get more love because they don't scream rich like so many other cars do.

Over the past 8 years I've gone from Four to Two to One 2017: 1 Aero S5 2 Renault Avantime 3.0 V6 3 Saab 9-5 NG, 2.0 diesel, HIrsch map & 6 speed paddle auto 4 1972 Triumph Stag, freshly restored, with a smidge over 27,000 miles. 1 engine, 1 family ownership 2020 1 Aero S5 2 BMW i8 Coupe still the car I might just buy again: it's so underrated 2024 1 911/992 Targa 4S in python green. At 1750kgs a 992 Tagra is a GT, not a sports car - at least it's equally capable of pottering about the city, cruising the South Downs, or getting to the South of France next month, and then cruising the Croisette. All my recent cars could do some of those things. None could do them all. So that's my One & Done Being a 2022 car it's also free of intrusive safety systems, which is a blessing. That said, nothing gets the smiles, waves and conversation of the Aero - at least the very green targa splits opinions with half loving it, and the other half just seeing a bright Porsche :-) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/01/28/PXL_20230711_132809744.md.jpg)

I am not usually keen on the bold/block colours but that looks way better than most, perhaps it is the black contrast balancing it.
Nice.

Enjoy your miles

As a self builder of an unintended circa 40 year long project, my ideal transport was ever a one ton p.u. truck capable of taking 8x4 sheets, a ton of this that or the other dumped on it`s back, and even the occasional body panel, engine or gearbox.... There was ever a requirement for the shopping trolley, along with some old crock of a sporting car/saloon in the garage to provide an alternative interest in life...
Not much chance of a one and done for me, though I did think along these lines when I bought this one time pig farm in the 70`s, it came in the form of an old LWB Safari LR.... Long story short, when an old Datsun p.u. truck appeared on the scene, it far better fitted my needs at the time than the aluminium constructed bodywork of a thirsty heavy old petrol LR. Normal duties at the time were catered for by a 60`s VW Beetle, with the usual mix of elderly Beetle advantages and issues...It never let us down.
Fast forward 40+years, and I still own two old crocks and one relatively new machine which seem to cover all bases well enough for my needs covering a wide spectrum from Pseudo vintage right up to EV with a circa iconic loosely VW related over powered sports/GT covering the middle ground.... Of the three the EV would be the last to go if push came to shove, amazing how one`s priorities in life can alter with the passage of time...?
