I have a Cobra on my Plus Four. If I have a solid luggage case on the rack it obscures the Cobra. I've modified the wiring to let me disconnect it and replace it with an LED light that sits on the straps holding the case on. Fast and easy to swop the connection using waterproof plugs/ sockets. This keeps the high level light in operation for better visibility to vehicles behind.

It seems there are no real issues removing the Cobra so I have 2x alternatives.

Remove the Cobra and tidy the wiring or swap the rack for one that allows the side loading of he screens.

We have an 18 day tour of Spain booked for June so have a few months to decide and install.

I already have an LED light that Velcro's to our luggage when touring so just need to figure out how best the mount on the rack.

If you get a new rack do make sure that you get the correct version for your car.
I ordered a rack to be delivered with the car in 2012, at the factory, and it wasn't until it was too late to have it changed that I discovered that they had fitted one for the earlier short door cars and that the sidescreens did not fit it correctly. I can get them in but at an angle. One of several things that they got wrong 🤬

In the photo I found after a search on the web. The rear bottom tube is a little wider than mine and you see the rear support that is welded to the bottom tube and comes out a little behind the rest of the rack. This is to hold the sidescreens from sliding back. The knob on the centre right screws a pin in that locks the swivelling section of tube in place. With that section turned down you slide the (covered) sidescreens in place.

I hope that is clear: more difficult to put into words than show how it is.

The rack mountings vary according to whether you have bumpers, over-riders or neither. You also need the correct thickness spacer for the T Bar to match the wheel offset.

If you have over-riders you may need to file the existing brackets down a bit to fit the rack. Don't expect it to "just fit". If it does, it's a bonus. Even after all that, there are different rack designs.

I've got a Librands rack with sidescreen storage on the Plus Four. The centre screw rod is VERY slightly out of line with the theaded mount . I have run a tap to clean up the thread and I push the rack centre mount up with enough pressure ( not a lot) to get good alignment. Luckily it's a rare event so no big deal. A better fix would raise the rack into alignment so that's a job to do. It's only a VERY small change so not a big deal. The fiddliest bit is the spare wheel sliding down under gravity when fitting the centre bolt and spacer. I'll look at a way to prevent this. Something like an insert to hold the spare in place during rack fitting.

How about lowering the centre mount just a tad, to match the rack ? Undo those three screws, ovalise the mounting holes with a file, and re-attach.

I just stuff a rolled up towel over the lower lip of the opening when refitting the spare and lining up the rack, added bonus is it protects the paintwork

I made some dead man's hands from teak, They are cut to the curvature or the outer tyre circumference and are cross halved to slot onto the lower timber cross member where the spare wheel holder fits on! and screwed on to hold in place. when the centre fixing is removed the wheel remains in place with the tyre sitting on these aid's thus protecting the rear alloy panel. If I remember correctly the diameter of the wheel is 600mm so a diameter of 300 for scribing the size, or just draw around the tyre laying on a piece of card, cut it out and use as a template.
